I cant believe I have never heard of this game until now reading a post in mmorpg.com. I can't wait to get home and download it.

I just have one question is PVP in this game as it is in Eve Online? You know what I mean the ganking, the harrasment etc?

Howdy mate.

PvP is entirely different. It's wholly twitch-based, and while some forms of ganking and killing are part of the game, it can be overcome with pilot skill. It helps to have group members to even the scales too :P

While VO can be rather blatant in verbal communications, harassment is easily enough avoided, using /ignore "Player Name" or if the community decides, they can mute a player for 48 hours given 20 or more /vote mute commands..

Harassment can be avoided more by safety in numbers, usually a bit of common sense goes a long way instead of getting frustrated.

It's much harder to pin someone down in this game than in Eve. There aren't really any ways to lock down targets.

Great thank you guys for the information. Another question is how do I mine, are there more than one ore, is there any link to guides on mining?

Welcome, Kambalo. There is an extensive, player-written guide to mining here:

Thank you very much. I have been watching the videos posted in the forum about the game and this looks awesome.

First off, once you are out of the training sector, and have passed your pilot's test, take the "miners needed" mission which will pay you just for visiting a mining station, then take the mining tutorial offered there. Easy path to mining license 1.

http://www.twitch.tv/mon_troopa I have some VO on highlights, be careful though, some of the videos are eye-rape for the first couple of mins because I forget to window it sometimes.

Also, most of it is travel, but there is pretty good combat in it :D

Stay out of greyspace until you can hold your own in combat.

Small correction: stay out of greyspace until you're ready to lose the ship/items/cargo you're flying in a quest to get better stuff at Corvus; don't home at any station other than your home nation's until you can hold your own in combat.

The noob who sneaks into Sedina with some credits and buys himself a shiny new Centuar with jacks, neuts, and a FC battery--and then makes it safely back to their nation space with said toy--will be very happy indeed. But they have to go in knowing they might be killed before they get to Sedina, and they still might get killed on the way out, though the FC battery makes it less likely.

Oh- since you're going to be mining, make good friends with a jettison all hotkey. Cargo weight is a big deal.

Think of it like this, Kambalo: Vendetta is Space-Quake

Or, to continue the EVE analogy:

Grayspace is null-sec, but with the low-sec gankers and pirates. Thankfully, there are no ways to prevent you from warping - no bubbles here to trap you while you get pounded. However, skilled pirates can certainly make your life hell when you're not prepared for them.

Nationspace for Red & Blue is like a really high-sec capitol system in EVE, and yellow space is slightly less safe.

The good thing about VO is that levels don't matter a whole lot. Your own skill with piloting ("twitch skill") will keep you alive with even a mediocre ship once you get, say, to level 3/3/3/2/2 or so. Easily do-able in one or two afternoons.

Of course, the opposite is also true. If you suck at moving and shooting and have low situational awareness, you can be level 20/20/20/20/20 with the best equipment and still die shockingly quickly to a skilled player in that mediocre ship.

Death is no big deal in VO. It's more like respawning in Unreal Tournament - a mild inconvenience. Ships cost a pittance, so dying 5 or 10 times a night (or even much more) is not financially harmful. I can remember losing my first battlecruiser in EVE that took me like 3 months to save up for, literally quit the game right then & there since the effort to go and rebuild it (even with insurance) would have been another month of screwing around. And I'm really lazy. When the game seems like work, it's time to move on.

Oh, and most ships are the equivalent of EVE frigates in this game. You can build your own larger ship (called a Trident) which is maybe the equivalent of a Battlecruiser in EVE, but that's the upper limit. Larger ships (Teradons, Constellations and HAC's) are not pilotable by players at the moment. Which is good cause I hear they're a bitch to turn.

Anyway VO is fun if you like FPS combat mixed with space MMO. Oh, and tequila. Don't forget.

Thank you guys for all the info, right now I am starting with the main tutorials, I just have one more question, is there anyway to improve targeting? It seems I am shooting and missing a lot on the targets.

I want to say one more thing, this game is pretty awesome, I wish I had known this game many years ago.

Ditto! And there is no better targeting. Here's a tip: Shoot, turn away, shoot, turn away. Your autoaim will make the shots in small bursts, which are harder for robots to dodge. Against another player, there's no better way.
Want to improve your shooting? Turn off autoaim (figure it out) sit on a wormhole, dodge people like Fleet consumer, and when I come through, try to blow me up.
