My hats off to the Dev's for taking the daring step forward in the f2p arena in order to build the player base. Nothing is more important to a game than they're membership. Our Dev's are trying to strike a balance between f2p and full subs. That is an excellent choice that you endeavor to do. I like the fact that you are cognoscent of the wallet warrior mentality that some games take which is a mistake and makes for a very unbalanced play experience.
Regarding a comment someone made in one of the threads of "how hard is it to get a job". That is a cruel comment. I wouldn't be so naive as to think that the Dev's develope gameplay "for me" to enjoy at they're own burnout expense. I've seen the route taken by some Dev's where they work a job and struggle to run a game. Not a good life. There are also some f2p games out there that use things like crystals to purchase ships, gear etc. with the Dev mindset of getting rich on player deaths... Not good for players. We are fortunate to have a group of developers here that seem to truely enjoy the game, care about they're community (regardless of f2p or premium), want to work to keep as many players as possible happy and even invite individuals to join in the creation experience.
There will be a lot of trial and error in this enterprise that they are taking, and I am looking forward to see what comes our way, and mostly... the increase in the player base. That alone will make for a richer gaming experience for all.
***One note to players. I personally ask you (including veterans) to have some patience with noob/newb questions and play. Don't be rude as I have seen much of this in gaming and especially here. The Dev's are doing they're best to try to attract new players, and nothing turns a player off more than the childish act of rudely-verbally attacking a noob who is confused and just wants to understand the game. That behavior will generate a bad name for the game, not growth but loss of player base. This game from what I've seen is all about player participation, so please make the noobs feel welcome. In one other game I played before this, any time we recruited a new player to our guild everyone welcomed him or her. We also had ranked experienced members help in training them. It made for a strong guild of "mature" players and allowed for some great guild wars. Trolling and name calling was strictly forbidden. The fact that veterans here seem to enjoy verbal combat, obscenity and profanity in general chat more than ship to ship combat is very sad and a severe detraction to to the gaming experience. If you want to attract mature players, act it. They will welcome it!
Good luck developers! I wish for you and all for of us players in VO your success.

I am confused. You do realize that when people say "Get a job", they're telling the player who is whining about the cost of a (cheap!) subscription to get a job? Nobody is suggesting that the devs should get another job.
Also, note that those particular comments were specifically targeted at the people complaining. In other words, they were not comments of the nature, "Hey devs, don't make a F2P option, because those players should just get jobs instead." They were instead "Hey morons, stop complaining that there isn't an F2P option and get a job." That's an important distinction. The fact that those morons exist is an unfortunate reality, as is the fact that apparently the devs need to monetize them to support the game. It is not the devs' fault that most humans are so defective.
It is understandable that you might have gotten confused, since those kinds of comments often happen in close proximity to other comments that specifically address flaws with various implementations of F2P gameplay. Advertisements, for example, or the ability to just dump piles of money in for various in-game advantages. Those are things I have problems with. Fortunately, the devs didn't do either.
What the devs did do is a sort of expansion to the Lite-sub concept. Instead of paying extra money to get more stuff (like CaptainMallRat wants), they basically let people pay less money to get less stuff. The distinction here is that there is a cap. There is a finite advantage you can get by dumping money into the game, and that cap is the premium subscription, which is only $6.67-$9.99 per month. A person with $100/mo to burn can't get ahead. That means that there is an easily accessible level playing field.

Totally agree with you galaxy (besides the get a job thing, no comment or opinion). I think the last end of the post highlights a growing problem/ need that needs to be filled. As VO grows it could use some serious volunteer moderators that could potentially be give abilities to silence extremely rude, negative, and verbal attack type folks. Some of these people just log in to the game to be a PITA since they have nothing better to do. The devs should not have to pop into the game and get in the middle of one of these arguments/ annoying inconveniences. The devs should focus on continuing to improve the game and not taking time away from that to deal with jerks on 100.
Perhaps establishing some moderators with minor abilities (such as being able to mute someone from channels 1 + 100 only for a 6 hour (first offense), 12 hour (second offense), 24 hour (third offense) periods of time. If you want to give these people some sort of reward then fine but i think there's some good options out there that would probably do it just to help the game out.
Do it for the noobs ;)

Don't like what someone has to say, use /ignore "person" or /vote mute "person" or simply leave the channel like I do when the f-ing noobs get on my nerve.
Yeah but the first thing u want to see when you log into a new game is someone being a dick on 100. Its not about us subscribers and oldtime players who know how to ignore BS its for the new people 5 minutes into the game who may not understand how to chat or even fly around yet. Think about it.
+1 Yu
And Pizza, if that is what he meant then ok. But my path was in defense of the Developers. So no need to jump on the post.

Perhaps the chat channels are vastly different at times when I'm not able to play, but from what I've seen, the vast majority of seasoned players either try to help or ignore the new player queries.
I don't see the current treatment of new players as a problem. Nor do I see a problem with someone being verbally smacked when they start whining about something when they barely have any time or money invested, rather than using whatever passes for their brain to figure it out or putting in a bit of effort.

See Fluffy, it's attitudes like yours that instigate the situation. U say, "they start whining about something when they barely have any time or money invested". The whole prospect of developing a f2p scenario is to attract new players. Then when they find that they really like the game and the community, they r willing to shell out $9.99/month to continue as a welcomed premium member. I've come across a number of those whiners, and when I took the time to explain how things work in answer to they're complaints, I always get a thank you, I didn't know that. There's two ways to handle a situation like that. One with honey, and the other with vinegar.
Idk what time zone ur in but in the mornings (EST), it's nice and peaceful with players regularity willing to help out. Comes the evening to night (EST) the venom comes out like saliva to a spittoon.

This is becoming rather silly imo.
We've had new players since the game first became public. Nothing makes this batch of f2p players any more or less special than the rest.
I will say it again. I don't see anything that resembles a problem. My play time is usually 20:00 to 24:00 (which should be evenings EST) GST weekdays and more on weekends if I'm around. The majority of what I see are new players joining in conversation with people who have been around longer, new players talking amongst themselves and brand new players asking for help or advice, which in almost every case I've seen is quickly rendered, and often by more than one person. I very rarely see someone get negative with a new player and it's usually because the new player is acting like a troll, not taking the advice that they have been repeatedly given or is being loudly critical of the game and their dislike for it. What I'm seeing is VO at it's best.
We do have a EULA. Is there a specific person or persons spouting venom at these new players? Report them. I seriously doubt that GS wants to take this f2p risk as well as all of the time and resources that have gone into making it happen and watch it get pissed away because new players are being verbally abused. Send them a copy of your errors log on a support ticket.
I think it's great that there are players like yourself who want to spend time helping new players get started. I don't however think that the rest of us should need or want to tone down our conversation or game play because suddenly there might be children listening.
The App store where the game is listed for Android lists Vendetta online as Medium Maturity, which is then defined as follows...
'Applications in this category may include sexual references; intense fantasy or realistic violence; profanity or crude humor; references to drug, alcohol and tobacco use; social features and simulated gambling. Applications may collect user location data for the purpose of sharing or publishing with the user’s consent.'
Not exactly wholesome and Father Knows Best.
So I in turn would admonish players, particularly the vets to keep doing what you're doing. Keep handing out information and advice. Keep providing content by actively killing new players and participating with them in group missions like the ones in Deneb. Keep recruiting and building your guilds with them. And for the love of whatever you hold sacred, keep the conversation on 100 lively!

I greatly appreciate the well-wishing that is the original theme of the post. Also, as Fluffy says, if people are being really abusive or nasty to new players, please do let us know and we'll see what we can do to put a stop to it.
In general, we do ask that people Be Nice to the newbies, and sometimes people are nicer than others, but on the whole there are quite a few vets who give their time to help new players become positively acquainted with the game.
So, anyway, let's leave it at that.. it's best for everyone (the game as a whole) if people are kind and helpful to the newbies, and there may be a lot more of them showing up soon.

Congrats for a great new release. devs!
However, I predict a whole new, undreamt-of level of newb griefing in 3...2...1...

Well, we've had some form of F2P for a little while now; but yes, before it gets promoted much I intend to further revise some of our strike forces and defenses (in ways previously discussed on Suggestions over the last couple of years).
Better shake that rust of Leber!
I been shaking but there's no tequila left in the bottle. I need easy-open bottle caps or sumtin.
I got a big pile of loot to spend on this game if it ever gets 1 of 2 things.
1. There is stuff to buy, to enjoy, to experience, to play with.
2. Enough players to actually login and see plenty of people online.
I spend at least $200 + per year on each game I play that has these disagreeable micro transactions and YES even pay to win junk that I don't like.
Once upon a time I thought to myeself " I'll never purchase virtual products or virtual money, it seems quit stupid." I thought "Why not sell the game for a price like everyone else"
Ok things have changed thats why
How elementary can a discussion be ?
Job or no job is irrelevant. It is quit stupid to actually tell people to get a job as if it has anything to do with why there are limited numbers of players.
Guess what ? In spite of the HUGE unemployment and job participation numbers in the US there are still alot of people working.
Chances are your actually telling people to get jobs who actually have jobs or even their own business. Especially since there seems to be a lot of people with jobs still in spite of the global leadership failures.
Easy answer:
Playing a MMORPG with a lot of people is WAY more fun then flying through wormhole after wormhole and posting on 100 if anyone is out there.
All the suggestions I've seen for F2P have been only for each individuals hopes to see more players in the game. Yes it's a selfish reason but they all say the same thing.
They don't actually complain about not having a job and want a free game. In fact this is an very wrong opinionated world view that seem to keep emerging.
OK, I hope this helps with the successful updating of your records for future reference.
Yes we have jobs, Yes we make money. Where is the fun stuff to spend it on is a better question, and all the players to enjoy them with is the better question ?

+1 to adding more moderators. Having some bitches smacked up for being abusive trolls is a good thing for the game.
And I'd have to agree with Captain -- for as many people that complain that this game is too expensive, there are just as many who would throw down more money if there was something more to be "bought".
But since dev time is limited, and they can't hire anyone new until they have the cash to do it, it makes sense that Inc is doing what he's doing. Trying to increase the playerbase while simultaneously earning a bit more money through Crystal purchases is probably the best use of GS's resources. Until you get some investors who can pump capital into your business, working with what you have is the only option. I'm sure this is something Incarnate has thought extensively about and discussed in detail with the other devs, as illustrated by Incarnate's repeated comments over the years...

lol i really dont see how you could enforce it unless removing completely chat.
Devs have better things to do rather then policing pre pubert adolescent chat..
100 has been regulating itself for years thank to /ignore and /vote mute, no need to add more gestapo.

Just to point out, when GS is able to add moderators, that there will need to be a serious shift as to what gets tolerated and what gets banned.
And yes, I'd happily throw down a $5 or $10 for a bundle of SSS. or $0.99 for something that makes my dent pretty. Or heck, I'd love to buy a room where I can store trophies like scrap from DeathSpores ship or my pictures and panty collection from Azumi. It'd be nice to be able to pick a faction/station to call home and sorta mean it.

Vendetta is a game, not a shopping experience. You do not get to pay $40 to have two queens when you play chess, or $3000 to have an extra player on your basketball team. You don't give the dealer $100 so that you can keep a literal ace up your sleeve.

100 and 1 are usually pretty mellow at night PST when I'm on, and vets are pretty decent about answering noob questions then. New guides would need to be able to be online during the earlier hours.
