Effects of rglow

Due to a large number of Mac and Linux users claiming they have rglow, here's a few screenshots with it on, and off.

Quoting Raybondo-"There's a neat new 'glow' effect that can be seen in windows if you have a Radeon 8500 or higher or a geforce3 or higher or a matrox parhelia card and are running in DirectX8.1 mode."

Note the DirectX part, last time I checked, Microsoft wasnt releasing DX for Mac and Linux.

Here's the screenshots.

One of the station, with it turned off

I apologize for their large size, as I've just formatted and have no photo editing software, however, .tga's have no loss of quality, so you're seeing them just as they look to me.

As nice as those pictures might be, there is one miniature and not so noticed problem...they are unaccessable...

Fenix: You need to provide a clickable link to those files,
as most max and linux users need to right-click and "save to disk" .tga files.

Either that, or you'll have to convert it to .jpg or .gif.

Bah. I have no screenshots to take. Either it's broken in OpenGL, or my card doesn't support it--nVidia GeForce FX Go5200. It should.

=/

Does turning it on affect performance? You notice any slowdowns?

Fenix: THere is rglow for the mac, raybondo broke it on the mac once but fixed it.

So before you yell learn about what you are talking about. Or is that too hard because it involves the words Mac, Macintosh, and Apple?

I believe Ray added rglow support for OpenGL some time ago. Although it doesn't seem to work on my ATI card in openGL/win32. But, I was playing the game on our G4 w/R9800 the other day, and I thought it had rglow.

rglow does work on my Mac with my Radeon 9000 Pro. There's usually a substantial performance hit, but stuff like that is hard to judge on my computer because performance is so fickle. In sectors like 11 and 7, I can get well over 90 FPS with High textures and 1/1 graphics settings, rglow, and Extremely High backrounds. In 12, 2, 9, and 14, lowest settings send my machine to hell.

OpenGL requires a Radeon 9000+ or NVIDIA GeForce FX+.

DirectX requires a Radeon 7500+ or NVIDIA GeForce 3+.

See the difference? I have a GeForce4 Ti. I can't use rglow.

If you don't know wether or not you're getting rglow, simply type /set gatten 1
If you've still got any questions other than "how do I undo that?" (which is /set gatten .1 or .115) then you don't have rglow.

I hate you.

s12 with 1/1 is crazy... I generally fly around with 1/15 (everything else maxed, rglow, 1248x1024) and I don't go under 40 fps.

Ok, here is my experience -

My friend has a Powerbook G4 Titanium - There is NO QUESTION, he had Rglow. I did the gatten test and everything. Very nice looking, Nice job Ray.

i have a Radeon Mobility (no number added) and i can use rglow.

Radeon Mobility usually means either Radeon Mobility 7500 or Radeon Mobility 9000 (sometimes other, but those are the most common), depending on how old. I have a Mobility which doesn't say so but really is a 7500.

there's also mobility 9600's, but they're brand new...
Nov 03, 2003 roguelazer link
I have yet to run into one of those. :P There's also Mobility 9200's, if we're being through. And I believe there was a Mobility Rage 128.

oh, those so bite.....
The Mobility Radeon my picturebook had sucked too...:-\
