+1 for CrazySpence[1]. Not so sure about CrazySpence[0] though, especially if CrazySpence[1] is implemented. A true fix for the rapid-hop exploichanic would be more helpful than weaker shields, IMO, and should be more palatable to the wussier players once they finally have their shields.
Changing shield strength takes 2 seconds.
No, I'm not making special-cases for special weapons right now. Maybe at some future point. Getting the actual shields implemented, at all, is involved enough for the moment.

/me goes to sleep for a few days.
I hope rep guns work through the shields :)
I think they do on NPCs.
*raises hand*
I don't think normal rep guns should work through shields. I think we need a new rep gun for capships that does.

-1 to player capship shields being not as strong as NPC capship shields. While players can still move around and therefore make it harder for other players to stack swarms or other shield bombing weapons, as it currently stands with NPC Tridents, it is possible to drop the shields solo, given the right conditions.
I think given the more recent updates, player Capships having shields at all will balance the game out a bit, especially if people keep leaving their Capships undocked and in random sectors. Should an "adrift" Player-dent be discovered, the shields would at least give the owner a little extra time to return to the ship and begin evading.
This would become especially important when the capship persistence time for logged players is increases to 15 minutes.

Even vs a moving Trident dropping the NPC-strength (80k) shields is trivial for a single bomber. Sure players can dodge more intelligently than the NPCs can, but the Trident Type M is still just as slow as the ones in a Border Skirmish...
Well I agree mostly that the shields should match npc dents. However, nobody flies around in a spam rag looking to down a Trident unless they are in a skirmish. Actually, even without shields nobody flies around very often with the proper armament for engaging a Trident. People only really pull out the pcb and whatever once a trident has been sighted. So having the shields lower than NPCs makes a bit more sense in that regard.
Why have one if any clown in a passing fighter can just knock it right off?

Where did you hear that was going to happen?

I don't know about Atheme, but asked Inc or Ray about it the night persistence was implemented, and they said they were going to up it to 15 eventually.
I don't think anybody is asking for the shields to be weak enough for a random fighter to drop. That would definitely be silly. I know I wouldn't back anything greater than a 20% reduction (and like I said before, I think they're probably fine as-is; I'd rather take the wait-and-see approach).

They are weak enough that a passing fighter can deshield them.

So what? If you cannot address the passing fighter before it deshields you, much less before it deshields you and then finishes off your grossly overarmored trident, you deserve to die.
I don't recall if it's been said over forums prior, which of course means it's not "in writing" persay, but the form entities info has been passed a couple times in game at least.
Last I checked it's a capital class vessel. No fighter class ship should be able to deshield it. This is why Bombers exist!
It's stupid to argue otherwise.

If anything they are slightly too weak, but its more that they remove the necessity for monotonous heals when you get hit by hundreds of puny bots or fighters take a pass at you.
It'll hold off one or two puny bots, but it quickly drops if more than a few start shooting at you. Go ram a traffic2 convoy with your Trident :)
