Booooooooooooooooo.
Why must you make it MORE difficult to play ion hive skirms?
One of the huge perks of the large addon was that it DID work as cargo. It also made it a very interesting and unique add-on. It also made it worth using. Now... we'll just all avoid storm skirms because nobody wants to lose a port for a radar.
Or is this some attempt to give the UDV Raptor more value?

they fixed a bug, get over it

Whoa I thought they did this a while ago and honestly it doesn't make it much harder greenwall

Both storm radars worked that way, not just the large one. And I agree with Spence and Inevitable. I did a storm skirm the other day with no radar at all. The only time you actually kinda need one is for crits, and for those, just swap one gem for a XX radar. No big deal.
Yes it's only a problem for the ion crits, specifically when the queen is way the hell out of range of the rest of the bots. The small radar extender isn't great for this given the range, and you can't sacrfice a large slot.
Get a buddy with a storm radar extender and shared group radar extender equipped.

More queens for me. :)
More queens for me. :)
I've always been able to stack swarms within 800m or so anyway, it's doable
Greenwall, it is easy as pie to find the queen in a storm crit: find any white dot of the trident in your group, fly to it. It always knows where the queen is. Meh.
That being said, it WAS a fascinating and useful bug. Strange that the radar ranges were diminished when in the cargo hold and not equipped. As if someone intended it that way…
Then again, after entering a storm you could jettison the radar from hold and still enjoy it's effects. The stat was obviously applied upon entering the storm. That points to unintended behavior. If it was a bug, glad they fixed it. Now that it's gone, debate wether it should be implemented properly.

The trident isn't always in your group.
The extender is now a handicap to use, and until utility ports are made, I doubt it will get any more use.

This was introduced as a side-effect to a bug fix some years ago where gunners weren't able to see beyond 500m on a ship with a storm radar equipped.

As if small port extenders are such a burden, one gem less is fine for stacking and killing crits.
TRS you are so thick. The point was that it makes it difficult to FIND ion crit queens, not kill them. Go make your own thread about how you are really good at killing queens.
If you are trying to kill the Leviathan and you encounter an ion storm critical skirmish where both the trident isn't in your group and the queen is well outside the main activity, either mining some roid way out, or being pushed (or pushing) the trident out to the far reaches of the universe, the best chance you had of finding it is with a heavy radar in your cargo.
If you swapped out a gem for a normal radar, your range is greatly reduced and you could easily spend twice to three times or more as long trying to find them. If you swapped out a swarm for a heavy radar, you lose the capability of dropping the shields once you find it.
If you can't find the queen, you can't drop it's sheilds and you can't kill the levi.

Wait, so you mean you might actually have to enlist the help of another player?
Greenwall shut yer trap.
Though, I'd like to note that for the mass and the loss of a large port the heavy extender should give full radar coverage to 5km
The light extender is perfect as it is the heavy one costs so much more to equip because of the weight/loss of a large port I find it ridiculous it only boosts the range an extra thousand meters.

My point, of course, lest we all forget, was that taking the cargo capability of the radar away has made it harder to find and kill the critical queens. Something we've all become accustomed to being able to accomplish solo.
I would have no problem if the devs made changes to the game that required previously soloable things to change to exclusively group things IF we had an ever increasing amount of players in the game. But we don't. We have the same piddly amount of people. And thus this change throws a potentially huge obstacle in a levi quest.
If the devs don't want us to be able to solo queens, they should up their shield recharge by 50% so that in all circumstances it takes group involvement to kill queens.
I would also argue that most of the people who have taken a negative stance against me here spend 0% of their time now killing queens, and much less ion storm queens.

It was a bug. It was NOT the intended behaviour. We thought we had fixed it some time ago, but clearly did not. We fixed it now.
If people want to suggest other changes or trade-offs or whatever (I dunno, a weapon that has a built-in extender, or something), there's a forum for that. I'm always open to hearing about use-cases and tweaking things.
But no addon should work without being equipped to a port. That was a bug.
Looking ahead, I can guarantee that the overall value and utility of storm-radar extenders is only going to go up. Yes, it is a trade-off to choose whether to have a weapon or enhanced situational-awareness. That's the point. People who keep arguing for "utility ports" so they can avoid the trade-off are missing this point.

No, we're arguing for "utility ports" to add an avenue of further customizability to ships. There's no reason that enhancements to armor or thrust or speed or ammo should take up a weapon slot.
