Release still in process.

Ray's really pushing hard on the persistent-capship thing, but it has a hell of a lot of moving parts. Didn't make it for tonight, but might still appear this weekend, if we're lucky.

FYI.

Geez! Excellent news. Just take your time. It's not about 1-2 days.

Wow! Looking forward to it! Will that include the pilot launch thing? The Trident Type S mission?

Go Ray! (but do try to get SOME sleep, and don't forget to eat)

The Type S variants are independent of the persistency aspect, so that's not going to show up in the same update, but maybe not long after.

It does mean launching from your own capship. It's pretty cool, from what I've seen of it in testing. Ray ended up having to do a far more complex implementation than we envisioned last year, to handle all the edge-cases and weird situations that cropped up as we went along. So, for instance, when you log off your capship becomes AI-controlled, which opens up a whole bunch of interesting possibilities for the future in terms of player-defined AI behaviours, and using this on other types of ships, and so on.

This is also opening a lot of doors for player-owned stations, because we've had to totally de-couple the ownership of the object from the player themselves (to keep it persistent), which was a historical issue. There's a lot of ownership / inventory stuff that came out of the long-term desire for share-able content (not that it'll all be there when this releases, there will be limitations.. but we are building with those goals in mind).

There could be a lot of secondary benefits that fall out of this development. So, fingers crossed that it all comes off ok. It's had a hell of a lot of testing, but it's probably the most complex internal change we've made to the game in years.

Ray is now hoping for the next hour or two.

FYI that I've had persistency set pretty low for right now. The capship will only remain for 5 minutes after a player logout. We have enough potential issues to worry about for the moment, but that time duration will eventually be increased (along with the number of capship-dockable stations, potential auto-defenses for capships, and other mitigating factors).
