Played beta - should I return now?

Dec 18, 2013 Navanax link
I played beta back when it was first released.

I love space/fps/pvp games. Vendetta had great promise at launch but was lacking a lot of balance and had several other issues so I decided to put it down and wait a bit for it to be fixed up.

Its been about a year and I'm wondering if it is now stable and balanced. I know ill get some biased answers here, but overall what is the current state of the game.

How is the user base, fairly active? How is the ship/weapon balance?

Bonus question - What advice do you have for a new player?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi Navanax,

If my memory serves me well, beta was around 2004. So it has been quite a time ago. Since then the game improved a lot.

You'll see cool gameplay and awesome graphics. As a new player, first avoid greyspace and collect experience in local faction space. The userbase is small, but active. Join any guild you wish and you'll meet good folks anyway.

On the other hand seek no balance. You can balance any handicaps with player skill.

If you need long term activity try the capship manufacturing. Very interesting and time consuming thing with lots of game aspects included.

If you prefer immediate action, look for the hive or the border skirmish missions. Or you can take the dark side as well and become a skillful pirate. Everything is your choice.

Best regards,

"Its been about a year"

What? Are you sure you don't mean decade? If you really do mean a year, then not much big has changed in that time. A bunch of smaller things have. Mines are persistent now, you can operate your own turrets, docked ships inside capships use up cargo space, there is a new power-draining weapon, conq stations are now much faster to conquer, and other small stuff like that. Oh, and a new version of the vulture model is being tested out of Odia M-14; eventually that will replace all vulture models (stats will remain the same). There were also a variety of bugfixes, including the one that could trap you in limbo for 15 minutes when you didn't have anywhere valid to dock (it is now always possible to dock with Corvus, even if they hate your guts). Ship-to-non-ship collisions cause damage again as well (yay!).

@Navanax

As previous post have pointed out, beta was far longer than a year ago. The game has not changed significantly in the last year.

I did not play beta, so I do not know what you considered unbalanced, or other issues. I consider the game to be in the ball park of "balanced", enough so that my complaints about balance are about specific tweeks to specific items or ships. I do not consider anything to be significantly out of wack.

The user base is spurious.

It is hard to get a true feel for the game until you are around or above level 4/4/2/4/-. My advise to new players it to develop piloting skill by doing the beginner combat mission to combat level 3, and then hive skirmishes to at least 4 (or more), do some bulk trade mission to trade 4, and then get a fast ship (hog2) and look around. You will not fair well in pvp at that level, not because of the level, but because that is not enough player experience to fight well.

The best way to judge the game, is to get in it, and judge it.

He might be referring to some relatively recent platform rollout, like WinRT or some such.

I appreciate all the info you guys have listed though. I've been considering returning for the last year, and have loosely kept up with the updates that come out. I'm going to use the Christmas free-time to come back, get the feel again, and I plan to stay on after.
