I play on my phone sometimes. Usually 4G LTE, but sometimes on 3G.

If I were you I'd switch to WiFi for busy sectors or big battles (Try Hive Skirmish or Border Skirmish missions) Lots of ships and shots tends to get really laggy with 3G.

YI play on me phone on 3G all the time, big skirms need a good connection but are possible. I don't have 4G and use WiFi at home. I sometimes encounter lag at the start up where the whole mission list won't load and in large hive there can be frame stutter but I'm on a 2 and half year old Galaxy S2.
