"Big changes to lighting"
Like a dynamic lighting system? As soon as I saw josh demo this on limit theory I logged straight into VO to shoot neutron blasters next to asteroids.

Yes, although that's about the smallest aspect of what we're looking to do. Technically VO has always had the capability of dynamic lighting, but there was some historical weirdness with OpenGL back in the day that made us not use it. Being super-cross-platform has been a hassle in some ways, you don't want to push one "PC" platform too far, because eventually graphical differences can cause actual gameplay impact and relative advantages and so on.
I don't want to get too far into the specifics of what we have planned. We're still evaluating different techniques and relative performance and flexibility tradeoffs. Some of the stuff may be pretty interesting though, even academically. Our use-cases are a little unusual, but even with that, I'm not sure if any game has ever attempted to do some of this stuff in real-time. But, we'll see how it shakes out.. what makes it in and what doesn't; but at the very least it's going to make for some cool visual improvements.

Nice read!
This was my favorite part:
Do you have a super fast video card in your gaming desktop, and expect to max out all settings? Great! Expect your power bill to go up.
Followed by this:
to ether the Bugs Forum
I thought the Bugs Forum was ethered some time ago (sorry, couldn't resist :-) )
Looks like some exciting changes and it's great to be reminded you are still aiming toward VO 2.0, regardless of increased competition etc.
My feeling is that Vendetta Online is truly a very special game, I look forward to reading about how other people experience it for the first time.

High quality lighting which fits the game's aesthetic style can do wonders for the game's feel. I look forward to it. :)
New roids? Now I'll have to take a screenshot of every single one of them AGAIN.
Looks like a new video card purchase in the future. :)
Keep an eye out, and as always, please be kind to the new folk
Heh.

The general goal is to have a whole bunch of cool events and things going on during our usual holiday-season period (Christmas to New Years), and I think this one is going to be better than ever.
Hehe, at last a reason to look forward to the crazy season ;)

Massively picked up this newspost:

Looks like they are increasing coverage of space games with all the new ones on the horizon, plus the holiday season.

Well, I sent it to them :). We don't get a lot of "organic" coverage, but I sent it to a number of outlets and wouldn't be surprised if a few more of them pick it up. Jef and MJ at Massively are kind enough to post things when I send them over, and I in turn only send things occasionally.
So far I've heard at least one more related article will go up on Monday, from another outlet.
