PCC: Please Help Test Mines

Nov 15, 2013 momerath42 link
The persistent mines are almost ready, but a whole lot of widely-used and venerable code was involved, so there's a high potential for breakage in dark corners. Anything I direct you to test would be something I've already tested, or think should be fine (and even the whole pcc couldn't test everything in a week). It's the things I haven't considered that would be most useful for you to bang on, so, please, if you can log into the test server, do so and test away.

Note: this is a test of existing clients with all the new server code. Any mines you drop should behave the way they always have. I've tested the actual mine persistence and related code quite thoroughly, as you might imagine; it's everything else that might have gotten broken that needs your attention now.

Especially helpful testers, especially on linux, may be given a new binary so they can play with persistent mines. I might even drop a few dev-avalon mine launchers along the way.

So you just want us to do things with mines?

Okay, i've got a video idea *giggles*

TL;DR: Your mines won't persist without a client patch (which isn't released). I mostly want you to test other stuff: anything related to rewards/penalties/tempkos.

Okay I realise what we're looking for here is very non-specific. Perhaps you could put some rails on what we should do though? Rewards sounds like you want us to follow a mission tree, tempkos sounds like you want us to kill strikeforce or something and so does penalties. If I just do those things is that what you're after?

If you could just set us a list of tasks that would inherently test the things you want, i'll do em.

If I had a specific task I thought had a halfway decent chance of turning up a bug, I'd have done it myself. But, ok: try to either log off, warp or explode as close to the same time that you get temp kos or have it lifted, as possible. Now with two or more factions (because that's supported now). Make sure your standing is lowered and raised as it should be.

Don't give us a specific task, give us an activity like do some conquerable stations or fight in monitored sectors that includes the mechanics that need to be tested and we will do them until you tell us not to.

I'm off to rack up multiple bounties now.

haha.. I already found a bug, hold on i'll report in a sec.

Momerath42,

I play on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, you have my email. If you need something to be tested, let me know how can I help.

How's this going momerath? need another bug finding session with your favourite shenanigan causation squad?

I'm in.

We've got almost everything you turned up fixed, but there's one case with tempkos and logged off players that breaks a lot of old assumptions and is taking substantial effort to handle. All in all, persistent mines were a land-mine of complexity, but I'm really glad it has finally exploded. There's a lot more cool gameplay to come.

Awesome, well we can take your changes for a last minute spin tomorrow if you want.
