I found a neat feature
I have no idea what causes this but it seems to have to do with starting fraps and going back in the game followed by reloading/changing textures or changing resolution.

I think the game actually better this way instead of being surrounded by nebulas that are brighter than a magnesium flare inside a gay man's glittery asshole

Yeah, we're aware of the problem and am working on a fix.
but it looks cool!
Actually, this is the kind of visibility I'd expect in nebulas. A bit unrealistic though, as nebulas in reality are such low density that you wouldn't really know you were in one until you could view yourself from a few lightyears back.
Fixed in the next update. We've always wanted to do very dark sectors. We used to have some way back in the day before the current incarnation of the universe.
Black foggy sectors would be awesome
yep
Make a new system with a black hole instead of a sun and kill the lights :D

Will the new incarnation have Super Furies / scary ninja assassin bots and a hidden wormhole you can find only by lining up two asteroids with holes through the center? :-)

Speaking of really cool features the devs are insistent on eliminating can we get this particular one back?
