I have a p4ht and a pD
they both run winxp 4GB ram
I know the PD is dual core but the p4ht seems to run most things faster
which one is best for VO ?

PS. they both have the same gfx and hd so it is just a matter of cpu

VO runs well on Linux....

What's the clock speed on each of them? You won't see much improvement from dual core unless you're on Linux x86-64 and have multithreading on.

The multithreading tends to crash a bit... still needs a lot of work by the Devs but they have been busy on other issues. Fortunately Linux can use the extra cores even without the multithreading availible - just on different tasks.

These days bus speed matters a lot more then cpus in many cases.
