Linux, probably, though it depends on what graphics chip you have as well as your personality type.
Linux + GLC + Kdenlive = Youtube.com/RedEternalDominion
If you're a user, go win xp. If you're not, go linux. If you don't know which you are, go win xp.
If you install ubuntu linux its just as easy and way less outdated than windows XP - I didnt see windows XP in your post - ew it's a total relic.
Ubuntu all the way.

+1 linux
Installing linux is a breeze now. I would probably advise xubuntu as you really don't need anything fancy on the desktop to distract your cpu from powering Vendetta and the default desktop is more windows like, so probably easier to get used to.

+1 to Linux
@vanatteveldt
+1 to using XFCE, LXDE or other light environment.
Why waste resources on anything other than games.
And now, more and more games are coming to Linux through Steam. CS, Team Fortress also work great on Linux.

I use Gnome 3 and I'm a big fan, but this is on Arch linux and it has given me troubles with VO as of late. Not sure if i'm not properly optimized on Arch or it's just because of Gnome 3 updates - either way I'm switching back to ubuntu because it works better for games.
