My oldest and I just tried VO.

It's like a combo of "Elite" and "Freespace". (Showing my age here...)

Is there a way to re-arrange the HUD? I'd like to increase the space between the HUD components.

Oh, and is there a way to slow down the rotation (Q & E)? When I rotate using the keyboard, the thing whips around rather fast... This makes docking rather interesting.

You can make some additions / deductions and iirc some placement options in the options section.

There are a number of binds and plugins that might also help you acclimate to the game listed on the VO wiki which can be accessed through Community Sites link.

I believe there are binds for rotation. When I used a keyboard, I found that with a bit of practice I used multiple brief taps to gain my desired orientation.

You can also try "/set doKeyRamp 1" (mind the caps) in the chat textbox ingame. It adds an acceleration time to turning and rolling with the keyboard, so you don't start off at the maximum possible speed.

Pressing F5 repeatedly will resize the HUD. The Interface options when you hit escape contain a section about the HUD.

A plugin called customHUD can help you add valuable information about your ship and your target's ship wherever you want to place it, and targetless adds a list of nearby ships to the HUD (invaluable).
