What am I doing wrong now?
Ok, so what am I doing wrong, again?
Reached level 3/4/2/2/1, intermediate combat training is no longer available, advanced training sets me to kill Guardians, wich are still too hard for me. Only once I got 4 in a row before being killed.
They are killing me so many times, that I'm getting bankrupt. That, and a few trips into greyspace and a furball.
Is killing Guardians the best way to increase my Combat License? Should I be doing anything diferent than grinding some cash to spend in gear to be destroyed by those NPCs? Because it's really not fun at all.

Do some escorting first and get some free cash. Then take advanced training and try the prosus assaults in edras d2 they give more exp than most guardians and only attack one at a time. A gauss vulture should do them nicely.
That's for light weapons and heavy as well as combat, for pure combat killing bots in an ion storm skirmish is the best bet.

Thanks. Never did an escort mission till now, and didn't know that killing bots inside an ion strom was a way to increase combat license.
It's been a while, but I think at combat 3 advanced adds TyCorp assaults to the list. To clarify what TheRedSpy said about ion storms, you need to be in a Hive Skirmish mission that is in an ion storm for the increased XP
you can also do Hive skims iirc now, nice way to gain combat and weps
Yes, TyCorp assaults are also on the list. Also not easy.
About Hive Skirmish mission... didn't tryed yet, b/c I was told they are harder than Guardians.
So... it's not just killing bots inside a Ion storm? Must have hive skirmish mission activated... ok...

Try a small hive skirmish and decide for yourself. It probably is a little harder in that I think the bots will be more aggressive, but on the other hand there are friendly NPCs who help you out. In my opinion, they're a lot more fun than the training missions once you get the hang of them.
As for what you are doing wrong, probably just not dodging well enough. You could try a lighter ship. Maybe try to roll more often - adding some curve to your motion makes it a lot harder for the bots to hit you.

Friendly NPCs? Interesting.
About rolling... I should replace the current roll keys to somewhere else in the keyboard. It's not easy to straff laterally and roll at the same time. Or make a better setup in the PS2 joystick.

try a crit HS, then fly into the trident and man a gun and shot from the trident, u get combat and lt weps for that also
A way to destroy bots and avoid a LOT of fire of once from them is to strafe left or right with F/A on and rolling continuosly. Be aware, as it does NOT work with players. Believe me, I actually did it with players too and sucked ass at PvP :-). I reccomend having the strategy i suggested before with NPCs and a different strategy for actual players.
I don't believe you get rewards for killing bots outside the nation in which you took the beginner/intermediate/advanced combat practice. Hive Skirmishes usually have the best reward for your time and effort after combat 3. You might also try Deneb Border Skirmishes.

Yeah you do. I flew all the way down to Edras a couple times to get the "bonus" bots. It's totally not worth the trip though.

Prosus Assaults do not appear as a bonus bot until around combat 7, but once they do they are much faster than say, Tycorps, just because every second list you have the chance of extra 300xp.
But sure, the other missions can help you gain more.

Tonight I'm gonna play a lil, will try that hive skirmish thing. And also the strafe+roll move.
The trick is to get combat 3 with the basic missions and basic botting, then you go ion storms for combat 6-9 ish as you prefer, then you go straight to prosus assaults for heavy/light with a LENB/megaposi as necessary.
That assumes that you have mastered the technique of avoiding bots, but it's a quick road to 10/10/10

Hey, small hive skirmishes are nice. And that strafe+roll is very nice against the bots. Still got destroyed a few times, but got my level 4 combat license!
And I'm learning to use roll, at PvP.

You can roll in pvp, just not too long or backwards while doing it. Going backwards and rolling like a maniac like Estrogen Profart is frowned upon in PvP. Also, you prolly don't want to use it for too long, maybe to avoid shots here and there, but too long, and you become flare bait etc etc.
