Hi, I ask something which has likely been asked many times before but I'm new to the game and enjoying the trial period immensely.

I just wanted to know before subscribing how many people currently play? Just so I can have my expectations set accordingly.

Also I understand this is running on a server based in the US, are there any lag issues for UK based players?

I'm also in the UK, and have no lag issues. My ping ranges from between 130m/s to 160ish and I only ever lag when someone is using my intertubes to download porn.

As for amount of players, I dunno. A lot of them are silent, because they are hiding from me (I know because I find them and kill them). But yeah, due to the game being mainly US based, the US time zones are usually more populated.

Let's see... there's me, myself, I, my character Rin, his sundry personalities, a few of my alts (mostly mono-personalitied), and the various people I shoot at, as well as a few I don't.

So let's say somewhere between 25 and 50 people online at any given moment (check the "Active Players" link on the left to see how that's distributed through the day).

Of that, I'd guess maybe 25% are longtime regulars, 30% are unsubscribed newbies, and the other 45% are people who have been playing regularly but for less than a year. Perhaps 30% of those online speak in global chat.

But this is all almost entirely guesswork and likely completely wrong. Mostly I'm basing this off the numbers I'd see online several years ago before the devs disabled the ability to see the number of players online, when it tended to hover around 30-40 players while I was online. It feels like there are currently roughly the same number of people online, but in fact I'm pretty sure the number of newbies and silent-folk has increased, partly due to the android client which makes chatting more painful for those users.
