I see, video evidence of you supporting the Itani.
You shall suffer greatly, Phaserlight.
EDIT: also this attn: all carebears:
"Non-consensual PvP is vital to any game that hopes to hold onto the Hardcore, who in turn keep everyone else interested, when game devs realize this they will stop dumbing down their games."

For the record, I would like to point out that despite being based in Wisconsin, home to both Sen. Joe McCarthy, Rep. Paul Ryan and Ed Gein, there is no evidence that Guild Software is made up of racist, paranoid, commi-hating crazies who make dead people into furniture.
Now that that's out of the way, let's carry on!

You forgot about Gov. Scott Walker.
Very cool.
/me taps inc on the shoulder and directs him to the Suggestions forum.
"Would I rather have a free-to-play option with a cash shop on top? Of course"
My disgust with this phrase knows no bounds.

I have not played a single microtransaction/freemium game where I concluded that it was better because of the fact.
Free2Play games are usually trash
Trying to trick you into spending oodles of money under the guise of free

Teamfortress 2 and Heroes of Newerth are my favourite examples, in the MMO scene there is nothing really though. There are pro's and cons for f2p, ultimately it's in the execution, I think there's something to be demonstrated by the model that is very applicable to Vendetta.
Black Prophecy. ^
likes VO as a sub model, keeps out most of the riffraff
Black Prophecy isn't doing so well, I hear (the developers went bankrupt.)
TRS: While TF2 and HoN are good games, both were definitely better before they went "free to play."

They both feel very commercial after their F2P makeovers. TF2 started out fairly innocently I felt but with the new mann v machine thing it's starting to feel quite commercial. HoN I think has worked it okay, the coin system works really well for them but if VO did something like that i'd hate to see them bring their currency into a conversion rate with real currency.
I think it should be done in a very elegant way, not flashing advertising everywhere, just a simple place somewhere on the VO website where you can purchase in-game services. When you start bringing it into the actual game and selling it during the gameplay, that's when it starts to impact the product and that is where I think the traditional complaint that you, crazy and draugath have voiced in my presence a couple of times comes from.
Meet the market need that f2p does, but be smart about your advertising and don't merge it with your product. It's a fine line but it can be done properly.

If people are turned off because they can't play for free or can't flaunt their real-world wealth, then I am glad. I don't want to play with those sorts of people.
It's just not as simple as that Rin, that's such a simplistic way of viewing it.
I think TRS should make his own microtransaction MMO. I'd be interested to see the type of crowd it attracts and how well it does in the long run.
I could have written a long post about how a large part of online gaming is about escapism and how microtransactions and such drag the real world in, ruining immersion, but I figured it's already been done.
That sort of crap might be appropriate in some games (FPS, casual games, etc.). It is not appropriate in a role playing game, and VO does count as a role playing game. Anything that is visible to other players should take place through in-game mechanics, not real world money.
If you've got spare change burning a hole in your pocket, go to the mall.

I agree with this. I quit playing TF2 when they added all that stupid crap.

The addition of the so-called 'stupid crap' hasn't modified the core gameplay. The problem is that there's commercialisation oozing all over it and it gives people like us yucky feelings like we're constantly being sold something.
VO doesn't have to feel like a sleezy profiteering F2P, it's possible to implement the business model without overdoing it. Just keep the commercial stuff on the website for starters and choose carefully what kind of products are offered.
