Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog

My twin stick rig arrived in the mail today. Initial impressions - I'm impressed, seriously impressed.

Plugged the two usb cables into the computer, booted up, started VO, went into the control setup and did some basic configuration before doing some quick flight testing. In a word, it works, and works well. So, all I have to do now is learn how to fly in zero G. hehe.

The warthogs build quality is second to none being made mostly of solid, and heavy, aluminium. It feels and looks just like the real thing with an amazing array of configurable buttons, hats and levers.

The only down side is the price, but then again you pay for what you get. And if your seriously into flight sims then that is not an issue.

For anyone who's interested my setup is as follows -

Kernel - Linux 3.3.7-1-ARCH 64bit
Gnome - 3.4.2

Its a bog standard kernel with no special modules loaded.

I've not tried it with that other OS but I wouldn't think there'd be any probs.

Nice purchase, really like that stick.

I already have a Cougar HOTAS, so couldn't justify the Warthog, unfortunately. :)

Let us know how you find it for flying as far as 'muscle strain' goes...

I haven't used my Cougar in space flight sims primarily due to the fact that because of it's 'stiffness', it got tiring and whatnot.

Cheers!

Was thinking about some new sticks, but not for VO, will be sure to look em up. The name just fits well with me :)

That looks pretty sweet.

I was looking at something similar a few months ago, probably the Cougar, but decided against it because it didn't let you twist the stick. I wouldn't mind if I were playing more normal flight sims, but for VO I really like having roll controlled by twisting.

I have never gotten used to rolling with the twist action. I find I am having to concentrate too much on NOT twisting when I am moving the stick around.

If you want to get really fancy, grab some rudder pedals to go with it.

Twisting action with a thrustmaster huh? ;-) I kid I kid.

I can't get over how much better it is to have just about every button at your finger tips, it makes a world of difference compared to using a k/b. Although I'm having to learn to fly all over again - combat's going to be a laugh.

mojoflow: For some strange reason the muscles in my right wrist are incredibly strong, must be all that, well... gaming I do. hehe

yodaofborg: Is that HOTAS or warthog? :p

Pizzasgood: Like mojo I've never been able to get used to a twist action on a flight stick so will probably get some rudder pedals instead. But each to their own.
