Different Guild Ideas

May 17, 2012 anso link
There are guilds that have specialised in trade, mining, manufacture, repair, nationalism, ultra-nationalism, pirate and anti-pirate.

Does VO have the player numbers for more guilds and if so what guilds are still missing from VO?

Personally I think EMS guild is an inspired idea, a non aggressive guild built up due to the oddity of repair modules existing in the game.

Here are a few of my suggestions...

Regional Guilds perhaps, Europe or US oriented guilds. Time zones can have quite an impact on your guild experience.

An anti-bot guild obviously with terminator's "John Connor" as the commander.

Eco-friendly guild who target those rascally roid raping miners, they might also serve the community by giving Ion storm reports on 100.

Serco nation guild to oppose oppression from Bractus.

Lastly my current favorite idea is a Hunting Guild, seeking out specific targets for bounty, or target a weekly rotating "in-season" guild tag or ship type.

Any other interesting guild ideas out there?

"Regional Guilds perhaps, Europe or US oriented guilds. Time zones can have quite an impact on your guild experience."

To the best of my knowledge, this does not exist... but there are enough people in VO's various guilds so that most guilds are represented at all times.

"An anti-bot guild obviously with terminator's "John Connor" as the commander."

Something like this used to exist... not too certain if it still does.

"Eco-friendly guild who target those rascally roid raping miners, they might also serve the community by giving Ion storm reports on 100."

Again, back in VO's history there was a group or guild that was dedicated to keeping space clean by scooping up wreckage.

"Serco nation guild to oppose oppression from Bractus."

Ahem... this already exists. If yer interested, talk to any member of the Bractus Liberation Front.

"Lastly my current favorite idea is a Hunting Guild, seeking out specific targets for bounty, or target a weekly rotating "in-season" guild tag or ship type."

There have been merc/bounty hunting guilds, currently it's more individual players that do this. There is a bounty system in game.

Many guild ideas, good and bad have come and go... there was even a "conflict resolution/arbitration" guild and one called "Newb Fleet".
The best thing you can do is try to start up a few guilds... most people will usually lend you an alt to get it going... if they think its a good idea.

Eco guild, heh. Rin Ganborro could almost be considered an eco-terrorist - his original reason for becoming a pirate was because he believes asteroids are alive, and fears that excessive mining will cause them to one day revolt against us. So by that logic, the pirates are heroes. (His multiple personality disorder is a result of this - that was his original persona, but the conflict between defending the universe and killing people who think they are innocent twisted his mind. Eventually his brain created the "evil space pirate" persona he now wears, as a shield against his guilt and doubt. Ironically, this results in him doing even more evil.)

Thanks for the input chaps, I've been playing intensively for a couple of months now and have a reasonable grip on the game, but always interested to hear some of the VO player history from players that have put in a few years.

I do like the hunting guild idea, it would be a way of embracing that PVP spirit without the continued targeting of traders or perhaps easier newbie targets.

My idea is that the guild council would choose a guild tag as that weeks quarry, it would then inform the chosen guild. So they'd know that they are the prey that week, it actually might spice up their gaming experience too.

On other occasions a ship type may be picked for example the X1, no one can complain that new players are being targeted there. Also as a non-nationalist non-pirate guild it's not about opposition of a nation or even financial gain. It's just a good fun sport!

Not that it would need much cash but perhaps the guild would be funded by 25% of all bounty's going into the guild piggy bank.

What else has been tried in the past?

You could always start a racing guild. Keep various stats for fastest time per ship type through the course. Host events. Start some of the previous cross sector races back up. Offer repairs at the finish line of the track.

Hey, how about a guild, where you're like the boss, and everyone listens to you!
It'll be great, because it's like you're important or something! And your buddies will totally be nice to you, and like, you will never have to masturbate alone ever again!

Keithe its a good idea as far as i know there are no racing guilds. Personnally racing is an area of play where I have little experience, so I wouldn't be the right person to champion this type of guild.

Does anyone know if its been done in the past with any success?

Pretty sure there was a racing guild at one point.

There was, I don't think it lasted very long.

Tried a few of the race tracks last night. It's really not my cup of tea but someone may get a kick out of going through a tube 0.5 seconds faster than someone else.

Here's another couple of ideas.
What about a guild of self-aware cyborg bots, really play the role-play angle, cyborgs would perhaps built by defective nano bot clouds combining ships and dead pilots.

Or perhaps a Gentleman's duelling Guild, that could be fun, I believe there are duelling plug-ins.

Player numbers well that is a problem, calling this game massively multiplayer is laughable, I believe there are some guilds where the councils are made up almost completely by alts which I think is a shame and pity the players that join guilds where they will never have a say. I'm not going to rattle on about how it's all the trolls and griefers pushing new players away, as I think the high cost of the game and too short 8hr intro is not helping either.

New players if there are any of you out there!
Feel free to post expressions of interest in the guild you would want to join.
