Instant Destroyed Ship on Mission

Feb 28, 2012 outfctrl link
So I took this mission. Some covert job, where I pick up a document from a space station and meet someone in space. I was told it was a LITTLE risky.
Well, I got the document, went to the sector to meet this guy in space and as soon as I jumped in, I was hammered and one shotted. Now, I don't know what they mean when they say " a little risky" but I would say very risky. Then I wouldnt have taken it. Heck, I didnt even get a chance to find the guy much less try and fight off the AI that killed me. I never even had a chance to fight him. I warped in and BOOM, I was space debris.

Any tips on this one? I was in a Revenant.

Thx all

Sure it was AI ?

Sounds like a player encounter to me. There are no instances in Vendetta, so even on a mission, you can get destroyed by a player.

Sounds like a great case of noobing to me :) I do love that Guild designed missions to take the lowest level players out into empty, unmonitored sectors that they'd never visit otherwise.

It kind of sounds like what happens when you jump into a sector where the turrets don't like you. Not sure why that would happen in a courier mission, at least not at the final destination - those are usually empty sectors in space. Now if it happened during transit as you entered a wormhole sector or emerged from a wormhole, it would make more sense. Or if the mission was to bring it to a station, some stations have turrets... And keep in mind that the not all missions take into account your faction standings with other people the mission might have you interact with. If you take a mission from a UIT station to deliver something to TPG, but happen to be Kill On Sight with TPG, you could be in for a world of hurt.

But yeah, it could definitely have been another player. Often players will send you a private message, which shows up in red text, demanding that you stop and give them money or jettison your cargo. If that happens be very careful. And don't think you can just warp away - you can take damage for the first few seconds of a jump, and you have no control over the ship during that time so you can't dodge. Plus it's pretty easy to follow people - if you're within 1km when they jump, the game tells you where they went.

To distinguish players from NPCs, look at the name. NPC names always start with a *, and player names are not allowed to.

Also, you can see who the last ten or so ships to kill you were by pulling up the sector list and clicking on the "killed by" tab. Unfortunately it only records during the current session, so once you exit the game that information is lost.

Well, it didnt say it was gray space or anything, just a little risky. Well, inevitable, it may have been me you smoked...LOL. My name is Arkius Haalem.
Sheesh....

All space is dangerous. Nation space is less dangerous, but things can still happen. Remember that when a mission talks about risk it is talking about risk that is an innate part of the mission. It doesn't know if there are random hostile players in the area.

Tip: Always check who it is who kills you and be aware of who is around you, so that you don't get fooled again.

Well, at least you could of let me fight you a little, Espionage. You would have won anyways, but at least I could of had a little fun trying and gain some experience in PvP, instead of just wasting me as I warped in.
LOL...it is all fun anyways. It taught me how to get another ship and re-equip it, amongst other things.
Found out that ships are pretty cheap anyways and making money is fairly simple. I sure could of used some practice though, fighting you.
