New player Questions

Hi All,

My background is from Eve Online which i stopped playing nearly a year ago after the whole MT fiasco. I have not played another MMO since then dived into skyrim etc. I love this genre, and also have a linux PC, so figured i would give this game a go. I have read some of the manual and played a tester of the game last night (which i enjoyed). I would like to get an idea of the depth behind the game.

I see its pretty much open PVP, which i like is it a case of players death = Loss of ship and Cargo, player gets transported to home station end of death penalty?

Is the economy player driven or perhaps if player numbers are not that prolific is it designed into the game to be player driven but NPC aided currently?

Can all ships and modules be / are player built, from ore gained?

What is the end game can a guild own areas of space through either building structures or just by teamwork as in pirate factions and making an area to deadly to fly through what would be the gain, is any gain legit providing its in game?

From an RP perspective does the term "guild" fit the game?

I want to state i am not looking for an eve clone, i know you can relate the questions to eve but that really is because thats all i have known. It's also not that the game has to have all of the above or i leave, i am likely to sub anyway. I am just interested right off the bat the level of freedom i can explore. Ultimatly i love communities around games, so any depth to the game that brings that about weather its loss, or cause is all good.

"death = Loss of ship and Cargo, player gets transported to home station end of death penalty?"

Yes.

"Is the economy player driven or perhaps if player numbers are not that prolific is it designed into the game to be player driven but NPC aided currently?"

No.

"From an RP perspective does the term "guild" fit the game?"

There are MAYBE two or three guilds and about ten to twenty people who understand RP. By and large, 98% of the guilds consider their whining/bitching/complaining to be RP.

Excellent no nonsence replies thanks Ryan, I have subbed so i will give this a real try. A month is normally good enough to get a good handle on the basics. It sounds, from stuff i have recently read that it may be open ended enough to at least explore the various options.

"Can all ships and modules be / are player built, from ore gained?"

No. There are a number of items that can be built, but all manufacturable items are currently only available via manufacturing. You may be able to buy or trade with other players to obtain them though, or steal 'em, or kill the person using the equipment and hope the equipment is dropped (random chance for equipped goods, but cargo always drops (except for with NPCs who have not taken damage from a human player)). As far as ships, only two ships can be manufactured so far, and ships cannot be sold to other players. It is possible to buy the parts from other players though.

"What is the end game can a guild own areas of space through either building structures or just by teamwork as in pirate factions and making an area to deadly to fly through what would be the gain, is any gain legit providing its in game?"

There are currently three stations hidden in Greyspace that can be captured and owned by players. They're sort of a prototype; the devs intend to eventually make a lot more conquerable locations. Most of the manufacturing missions are hosted by these conquerable stations, including nearly all of the missions involved in constructing a capship.

We can't build structures.

A dedicated enough group of players could lock down a system or even several if they wanted, but to maintain the blockade for long would require a large number of people, and the occasional guy in a fast ship might still manage to slip through - no foolproof way to prevent entry. The main motivations to do this are to prevent people who might attack or defend a station from even reaching the battleground, or to keep the area temporarily safe while other members of the group move valuable cargo. And of course, for Fun.

To sum up the differences between the two games in very general statements:

-Eve has much more intricate framework and systems that you can dive into. Vendetta, in that respect, is comparitively shallow. So if that's what you enjoyed the most about Eve, you probably won't like Vendetta as much. The up side of that is you do not need spreadsheets to play this game.

-One word: Twitch. In terms of the actual piloting and combat, Eve is a screensaver compared to this game.

I had a great time in game last night community very helpful, i was trying to understand any must knows around dropped loot in an open world pvp got lots of advice and help thanks to them.

I read the back story yesterday, all 12 chapters there is a similarity with eve in that humans find new planet get cut off from mother earth chaos ensues new race splits ideologically but it does end at that point. The ideological difference seems not to be about technology in itself but how that technology is adopted. I am since reading the back story more convinced than ever that "Guilds" is simply the wrong terminology in this game for groups of players. I talk from an RP perspective the game story has a dark heart and that needs to be reflected in how the groups of players can portray themselves.

Games has been going a while now, can anyone recommend some good sites for further reading and development of the story? i would be interested in getting right up to date with the whole Deneb stand-off in more detail.

I think the story does allow for the whole pirate scenario which is real nice i think pirates have as in eve an excellent canvas for RP. I would consider myself light RP, but i invest time to understand the game at the story level, as i think it enables me, when the opportunity arises to play the game at another level.

Thanks for responses, look forward to meeting some of you in game, others probably not :)

The war in Deneb is on-going and there's Border Skirmish missions you can take to participate in the battles.
