New player question on mining/Ships
I call myself a new player even though I played awhile back, but never got into it.
Now I am going full steam, at least making an attempt.
The question is:
I am doing the mining training course in DAU L-10( I think that's the place) and when I equip my mining beam, I have no weapons! Same with the scanner, when I did that training. What if I get attacked?
My ship has two ports...That's it! One for weapons and one for a power supply. I feel so helpless when I do that training. Plus, I only have 18 spaces for loot.
What would be the next ship to buy and how much do you think it will cost me? Please bear with me, I am learning and there is so much info to digest.
Thanks all!

If you want a good mining ship early on, do the Courier missions to get some quick/easy Trade XP. Then the Revenant will be available with a bigger cargo hold, and 3 ports.
Thanks Abort, I will start doing those to get some XP and cash.
The early ships are pretty bad at mining. I always suggest working up your combat and trade first so the mining is not as painfull.
As to weapons - I spend a lot of time in VO unarmed. You either pay people off or you learn to avoid them which is quite easy when mining.

I did all my beginner mining in the same sector as the mining station in Itan. I'd suggest doing that (for the equivalent station in Dau or Sol II, if you're UIT or Serco) if you aren't comfortable going around unarmed.
As for a next ship, the Revenant is an excellent beginner transport and miner. It's pretty easy to get the required trade experience points, and you only need to get up to trade 1, IIRC.

If i may add another mining question to this thread:
I can't see any way of owning more than one improved mineral scanner. If you have an improved mineral scanner and you lose it, can you get another?
Thanks.

the only real difference between scanners is the range - dont sweat it
the reg scanner is 500meters, improved is 600meters and advanced is 750meters iirc, also they only update every 5 secs iirc, power is 4, 2, 1 for them also btw. advanced you can only get from a master prospector or if you complete the master prospector missions (120)
