New station framerate vs. Old

Sep 27, 2003 Tempest link
This seems counterintuitive, but the new station displays a higher framerate than the old one. Using a Nvidia GF2 at 1024x768, my framerate with the sector 9 station filling my screen is about 16 fps, whereas the old station drops my FPS down to about 10 if the slightest bit of it appears on the screen from any distance. The sector 7 mining station and the gear shaped stations don't seem to have this problem. Perhaps it's time to retire the classic station in favor of a smaller, modular one.

I think it's cause of the new asteroids. The old ones were killer on any gfx card, but these work better.

hm... i got huge framerate drops on my radeon 9600 (or 9000, i tend to forget) mobility with rglow on. i turned it off and got an increase by about 5 fps (making it playable). and this did not only happen when looking at s9 station, also in the others. hmm. maybe it's due to the memory leak issues the devs mentioned on ATI drivers. it'll get fixed eventually.

The new station runs great for me, I get about 30 fps looking at it, and about 20 flying around it. So everything runs smoothly

I got 52fps looking at station from just far enough away that I can see the whole thing. GeForce 4 Ti 4200, Very High, 1/1, 1280x1024, no rglow.

hrmmm...I get the same as phoenix with my damn 1mb card, haven't had the oppourtunity to test out the GF2 yet :/

EDIT: set at 800x600

A 1mb card cannot do 16bit color at 800x600.

it can, as long as it borrows the system memory.

Except that a 1MB card would have to be PCI. And PCI memory access would be s...l...o...w....

on my new Radeon 9800 XT i get even framerates anywhere I fly - it DOES NOT move from 90. I thin it has a locked framerate somewhere.
