n00b question: keyboard/mouse or keyboard/joystick?

Arolte, I have taken down the best of the best using ONLY arrow keys and keyboard controls. Its possible... just takes practice. PLUS you roll faster by default which is a nice bonus. I just never used the mouse, found it awkward.

I use pretty much every ship too, twin tach/gauss vulture, gatling prom, tri-flare valk for those tight spots... :P

Arrow keys rule. I use physics mode + arrow keys, and it rocks, you guys should try it.

Should I use my joystick (MS SW force feedback) or stay with the mouse and keyboard? Vet opinions?

Thanks!

It's a big controversy. Personally, I use a mouse + keyboard over my Logitech Force Feedback 3d. I find I get more control that way. The devs use mouse+kybd too. But some people prefer the joystick feel...

Keyboard and mouse is always better.

=b

Unless you're flying a real spaceship or fighter jet of course. In which I'd probably rely more on a joystick.

Captain Blastems frantically moused away from the enemy in his viewscreen. He looped around, and was lining up for a ram, when controls went dead.

"Number One, hand me some AAs, please."

Yeah, that's annoying with wireless mice. Like this one right here...

/me uses the arrow keys
/me also flys in physics mode. And third-person view.
/me is 1337

/me smaks all who play with wireless input devices
one should think that lost botmatches (due to dead batteries) are big enough an insult/incentive to make players use wired equipment, but nooo...
anyway, has anyone here used the new bluetooth apple kboard/mouse?
i wonder how it is in long-term use...

If you buy a rechargeable wireless mouse, you actually get more cables than you do with a wired mouse. This is certainly the case with the Logitech MX700 and the MacAlly RFmouseJR. You have to deal with the RF receiver itself (plugs into USB), the mouse (duh), and the recharger cradle (which you have to plug into a wall socket). So your desk is actually more cluttered than it was before. The advantage of course is the fact that you'll never run outta power.

Do yourself a favor and stick with wired mice, unless you absolutely have to be able to use the mouse while watching a DVD from your bed or whatever. Until better technology rolls around you'll be better off with it.

In my experience, logitech Joysticks are like sticks in the dirt, and MS Joysticks break after the first time you press the trigger. I fly with physics mode using a Thrustmaster Afterburner II (US $60) exculsively, I rarely touch my keyboard to do anything other than type.

I use... the arrow keys.

Seriously.

If you dont have a joystick but want arcadey responses, try them out.

I have a wired and a wireless. The wireless works better because the cable doesn't wrap itself around my neck as often, but I switch to the wired when battery goes buh-bye.

LOL!! UncleDave, I hope you're kidding. There's no way you can survive in Vendetta with keyboard only. Unless... you use rockets exclusively. Damn rocket rammers.

I like the smoothness of it, and I wish the reticule would respond the same way for the mouse, but damn... you just can't control HOW fast you turn.

What I want... is an analogue joystick.

valk, vult, prom aren't virtually every ship :)
yeah what's wrong with arrow keys? dragos also uses them. there's real huge difference between that and the stick.

I used my joystick today. It was actually pretty usable.

I used a tablet mouse for a while. It worked pretty good, and had the distinct advantage of being wireless without needing a battery. However, I have a small tablet (graphire 2) and the drawing area just wasn't big enough, so I invested in a joystick and have been happy ever since.

hehehhe, Dave I got an analog joystick for ya!
/me chucks a joystick that uses gameport, not USB

anyway, I like my stick, because it has the Z axis, and I get to control ate what rate I want to roll ^^

speaking of wireless mice and keyboards.. keep your headphone wires away from the output ports of the keyboard/mice... it intereferes w/ the signal (I've died a couple of times that way...)
