VO 1.8.195

Oct 28, 2011 Kierky link
- Drastically reduced requirements for manufacturing the Trident Type-M user-playable capship.
(Plating panels & other parts needed in smaller numbers + few rare ores extra needed)
Trident Changes here
- Additional cores added to server cluster, further expanding capacity.
- Added updater timeout handling to Windows and Mac platforms
- Auto Dock mode. Enabled by default on Android and disabled for all other platforms. It Autodocks you into the docking bay without having to "Activate" it.
(This is found in GAME options, Auto Dock)
- Separate error messages for Android Updater for connection timeout vs connection failures.

Thanks, Kierky. Here are some bits I added to the newspost version:

We welcome continued feedback on any of these changes, particularly that of the Trident Manufacturing. There will be two other trident types released in the not too distant future, but they did not make it into tonight's updates.

The auto-dock feature was mainly implemented to make the game a bit easier on a phone or touchscreen tablet, but is also kind of nice on a PC. It should be pretty helpful when trying to dock with a moving capship.

The updater-timeout changes should help improve connection resiliency, and also give users a bit more information to help debug connectivity problems relating to the game.

Wow, that should make a few people happy.
Nice update.

Re: Type M:
Nice Reduction. There are easily 100 fewer XC loads to haul into M-7. The FCP, FFSS, Internal Bulkhead, and Hangar Bay Assembly reductions represent a significant bite out of the preparatory manufacturing. (tho I feel sorry for Patrizio, who JUST finished his)

IMHO the next step would be to reduce the recipes of the components, such as the amount of both normal and synthetic silksteel needed for Fluid Formable Silksteel, the amount of Xirite alloy and outer hull plating for Fused Composite Plating, further reduce the Reinforced Bulkhead mission at Nyrius to use 3 FFSS instead of 5, the number of Hull Panels in an External Hull Assembly, and even the number of Reinforced Bulkheads needed for an Internal Bulkhead to 3 instead of 5 as well. I know I'm biased, but I'd actually slightly increase both the base ores and rare ores needed at the component stage. It never made sense that the final assembly needed so much raw ore when that kind of foundry supply would be used earlier in the production chain.

oh, and halve the weight of FCP's.

If, with the not-too-distant-future type P and type S, I'd consider swapping some or all the normal trade goods for a huge fee paid into the mission, and a significant increase in the insurance mission fee for these ships. That would allow easier access, but still makes the type M worth the extra grind.

I suppose this belongs in suggestions now, so I can be told I'm being demanding...

Great update! Grats on expanding the server cores!

Nice progress, looking forward to seeing how the new cores work out.

the autodock feature is great. I activated it (linux/pc) and docking is def more comfortable now.

Wonderful updates, thanks!
Love the auto-dock.

Excellent update.

+1 to everything CD said.

Oh shut up Impy.
If you were that good, you would have killed them before they dock.
So bite me.
Oct 29, 2011 Impavid link
I am that good, and I do, and often I also watch them bounce spinning off the dock because they hit at a bad angle and didn't click the dock button fast enough. Now traders need even less skill. Soon they'll be able to teleport cargo from place to place, and never leave the station at all!

I don't see why you care, you never play.

Aye, good update, thanks GS.

Autodock makes docking with a moving capital ship in the border skirmishes SO much easier. Good feature!

Is there a command to turn it on/off easily without having to go through the menus?
Oct 31, 2011 roguelazer link
`set autodock 1` and `set autodock 0` ought to do the trick.
Oct 31, 2011 Pizzasgood link
Hmm, I hadn't thought of using it with cappies. That might be a way around the problem where trying to dock with a capship at a wormhole (or jump point, if you have a course plotted) can result in you jumping rather than docking. Assuming it doesn't make you auto-warp instead :P
Nov 02, 2011 abortretryfail link
Nope, it doesn't make you auto-warp. Having this on has helped a LOT when trying to dock a heavy bomber with a skirmish Trident going full burn towards it's inevitable destruction.
