A number of guilds were alleged to have data-mined the old active player list for the purpose of identifying alternate characters. In response to repeated complaints, the developers disabled the old active player list permanently despite loud protests from a number of people who may or may not have been data-mining it.

As VPR has an interest in avoiding infiltration by pirates, we have since endeavored to come up with a means of detecting alts that can't be blocked in this manner. We finally decided to data-mine the game itself.

Using video capture technology surreptitiously inserted in to a popular plugin, VPR has logged video of all active PVPers fighting. Using sophisticated computer vision algorithms, we have been able to identify unique characteristics in the fighting/flying styles of every player and link them to alternate characters, even when the player attempts to use a different style for each character. We believe some such characteristics involving reflexes and reaction times are subconscious and virtually impossible to alter intentionally. Our unique optical flow analysis can use data from the pilot's perspective, or observation of a third party regardless of the observer's own motion.

Even if our modified plugin is found and blocked (we honestly expected it would have been already), we will be having members of VPR and allied guilds capture data for us in the future in exchange for access to our alts database. There is nothing that can be done to block this technology, as any video of a person engaged in combat in VO can be used. Even filming the screen with a cell-phone camera while fighting the subject you're interested in will suffice.
