A little frustrated with roids.
I'm using the targetless mod, gives me a pretty good record of what roids are in the sector, but is there any way to record a little more detail, like x/y/z coordinates and asteroid total mass, perhaps a way to map a sector?

I've found your problem then.
Anyway, to actually answer your question, rather than making fun of the stupid plugins you use: no, not really. The roid's position and mass is not given directly to the client software, which means that it would take a somewhat more sophisticated approach than just reading to find either. It's not impossible, but it is (in my opinion) way more trouble than it's worth.
If you're interested in writing your own plugin that does this, an asteroid's mass can be found from its temperature and cooling rate, as per black body radiation.
An irritating amount of triangulation will get you its position.

I want to add more integrated features like this, especially as we increase the asteroid density in sectors.
Well dionnsai, you might guess that being able to locate the positions of good roids throughout space is something which Guilds who have an interest in mining and trading have addressed. Maybe have a chat with them ?
You can display, and then record, your x/y/z position in space using the command /displayshippos
Happy mining!

Heh, figures that TGFT, being the only guild with douchebags douchy enough to think that their time invested into VO is worth anything, would have bothered to put the time into something as pointless as mapping sectors.
Be forewarned: once you go TGFT, your mom will never look at you the same way.

Thanks, that response is actually helpful =D

Always happy to help out! Welcome to VO, sucker :D
Help, I'm being attacked by a space hippo!
Very funny lol.
Very funny lol.
PA has an extensive database of over 200k roids mapped. XYZ coords are nearly impossible since they are not availible from the client. Mass can be estimated but we havent gotten around to implementing that feature yet. :}
Members only of course.....
BTW targetless chokes after you reach a few thousand roids.

Nobody needs proper coordinates or even math to make a basic map.
What you can do is fly far enough out to have a nice view of a field (or part of one, for larger fields), then take a /dump (that is, take a screenshot using /dump (or F9 I believe?)). Now fly down there with a scanner and find out what's in each of the roids you can see in the screenshot. Using the image editor of your choice, annotate the screenshot (probably want to place the image on a separate layer and fade it out a little so the text shows up nicely).
If you have targetless, you can first go in and find out what's in all the roids, and then fly out and take the screenshot. Then you can target them one by one from there (the close ones anyway) and this way can more easily tell which roids you're looking at.
Be sure to take some kind of notes as to where your vantage point is - for example, "Fly toward the big yellow star."
Depending on the size and density of the field, you may need to repeat this from several vantage points to see all the roids.
(Some of you may be asking: Why make a map if you have the data in targetless? Because unlike you, maps are cool. Also, maps are easier to distribute and use - no plugins required. Also, a map can allow you to see where roids are in relation to eachother, in case you want to plot the most efficient order to mine them or whatever. And (correct me if I'm wrong) targetless is limited by distance - if a roid is 12km away, I don't think you can target it to know where to fly, even if it's in Targetless's db. With maps you don't have that problem.)
/me wonders why it takes a pirate to figure this stuff out.

I've mapped most the best roid farms in space in my mind. I don't really mine, but I know where to find miners. Now if they only didn't hide in Rahmus out of my reach.
Nowhere is out of reach.
F12, Rin. 5000km is maximum targeting range.

Holy crap, we did? Even last year?
How come nobody ever told me? I was stuck mining Ferric in station sectors...

It is astonishing how little it takes for the left hand, right hand problem to occur.
tsk tsk tsk - I could have set you up with some really nice Aquean ones.....
I'm a little disappointed, nobody said this yet?
A little frustrated with roids.
'roid problems can be frustrating, especially for a miner who sits still a lot, the advice on this webpage can help bunches*.
*not tested personally, as I do not mine :D

proper preparation is very important to mining
