My first day in VO

Nov 21, 2010 mrputts link
Hello Everyone,

I just finished my first day in VO. I played the 8hr trial (which I really had no idea was an 8hr trial till it said I had 2hrs left :( ), and I love the game. I would like to take a moment to share my thoughts.

I did the tutorial which is pretty easy to understand. Flight is really easy with Flight assist off although looks really fun to master for PVP. The game is so responsive I love it. I have been doing several missions got myself to combat license 3.

I did some mining which I think is done extremely well. A lot better than AFK mining in EVE.

The graphics and ship models are really nice looking. I just wish that the ships would look slightly different, and cooler as you go up in tiers (i.e The Hornet MKII would look slightly different than just a hornet so it looked like you were getting an upgrade.)

The station UI is relatively easy to navigate. When buying a ship however I think a compare button would be nice to compare stats of one ship against another. I know all you Vets got this stuff memorized, but I had to keep flipping (and scrolling) between ships just to read the stats while a made a decision.

The missions tab seems to get bogged down when you have 60+ missions to look through. Perhaps these should be sorted by type under separate tabs.

I do not know everyone in-game although I am trying to be very active in chat when I can. Everyone has been friendly with me and patient with some of my dumb questions. So thanks for that :).

Lastly I would like to state that a /who command would be beneficial to at least the newcomers.

Anyways sorry for the long (probably already stated 100 times) post. I have already subbed, and plan on playing a lot so see you around in game.

Welcome to VO! It's cool to see a lot of new players writing about enjoying the game lately.

I don't mind new players stating their first impressions, even if we've heard them before. I think they are helpful so long as the poster is not arrogant or too premature with their opinions. The last few "new player" threads have been good.

Welcome to the looniverse:)

Your opinion matters as much as everybody else's, so keep on commenting. However, if you want to suggest something, I'd recommend a search for it as it may have been suggested first. And that will spare you some heavy trolling/flaming. But, as I said, welcome.

Welcome.

FWIW, we used to have a /who like feature, in a roundabout manner, but it was removed due to various reasons. For example, people could look at the player list an know that there are several pirates lurking and log off until later when it looks safe.

Now we just have alts in the pirate guilds and check the guild list :p

Besides, everyone knows that pirates never lurk further than b8...

Assumptions get ya in trouble sometimes.

Pirates in B8? Oh yeah I *accidentally* attacked a pilot who was sat still there the other day, forgot that ninnys still use that sector. He was like all "Hey, where was my hail?" I was like "STFU" and he was like "You suck!" SO I was like, "Yeah I do and what?" and stuff.

Bah.
Nov 23, 2010 tarenty link
There should be an automatic message sent to any player entering B-8 such as "Kill or die. You have been warned," caused by a rogue beacon.
Nov 23, 2010 yodaofborg link
I blame that care bare guild, what wassit, BLAK or summink? What should happen in B8 is just what should happen in any sector in VO space?

So like no special messages needed and stuff? Just know if I see you I'm a gunna shoot at you, 'nuff said, this is Vendetta Online after all is said and done.

We want to keep our newbs. If we warn them, they can't complain afterward, or they'll be exposed as the pukes some of them undoubtedly are and we won't want them anyway.
Nov 24, 2010 ShankTank link
So? Warn them when they enter grey space at all. Oh wait, we already do. Why are we talking about this?
Nov 24, 2010 tarenty link
We do?

"There should be an automatic message sent to any player entering B-8 such as "Kill or die. You have been warned," caused by a rogue beacon."

I approve of this, just for the simple fact that having such a beacon would be cool.

We do?

I think I recall that we do. The first time you try to use a grey space wh, you get a warning.

I've never understood complaints regarding hails in B8. I've always thought of B8 as the most dangerous sector in the universe, where all bets are off and even your guildmates might turn on you. It is the location for pure unadulterated combat.

As such, any complaints regarding civility in B8 make about as much sense to me as a turtle wearing ice-skates to a disco party inside the boiler room of a battleship on Easter Sunday.

Also: You're completely right, pirates never venture beyond Sedina B-8. The rest of the universe is completely safe. So feel free to fly through all of greyspace in XCs loaded down with the most luxurious of goods. Don't mind those incoming neutron rounds, those are just your eyes playing tricks on you.

Umn, unless things have changed quite dramatically since the last I actually played, anyone with half an eye on 100 should have a clue that venturing into Grey might be a tad unwelcoming as it were...

So, why would we need a warning system?

a turtle wearing ice-skates to a disco party inside the boiler room of a battleship on Easter Sunday

This is actually a pretty regular occurance.

Fluffy: They need half a brain to infer that from 100, too.
