What race?
I say "race" because i played vendetta's big brother...
EVE ONLINE.
I quit kuz i got bored of pwning noobs. Im gonna use some EVE slang, and probably be that person who says vendetta copied EVE alot. Hopefully not, but oh well.
Anyways, im thinking UIT because of neutrality, and therefore safety... hmm..
This game seems like eve.
Same starting date.
Corruption
Wormhole
Wormhole collapses
Colonies rebuild
Different paths are taken
Thus is the game.
yes, there are significant differences. And im not saying "you copied EVE!". EVE is similair, but from looking at this game i can tell not only will it be different but it will be great.
I hope for a good time!

Welcome to VO :).
EVE is much more well-known than we are, and I applaud their successes. I tend to think of us as contemporaries. I'm sure we had similar inspirations, as I mention in this FAQ entry.
VO was publicly playable in May of 2002, the backstory written in April of 2002, which makes it pretty tough to say we copied from them. Our earliest public development post, on the old Guild page, dates back to February of 1997, some months before CCP was founded. This is also well before Ultima Online, or the general creation of the "MMORPG" term.

Well... ya sure know how to make friends in a hurry. VO predates EVE. VO is twitch based combat, EVE is point and click... no skill, EVE is grind grind and grind some more... VO is skill based advancement.
Anyway, UIT is absolutely NOT neutral... they sell to both sides of the war which creates enemies on both sides which eliminates the "safety", not to mention UIT translates into pirate food.
In closing, welcome to VO. Hope ya stick around. Have fun.

Ohhhh..... that makes sense..... darn EVE copying u...
Eve was like.... 1999 i guess. Yeh..... technically EVE was later.... And probably started with similair intentions. but not really popular until recently (past 5 years)
Anyways, not to argue with ppl who really know about the game because, frankly, they MADE IT LOL!!!
Awesome, and ive always wanted a "flying" version of EVE. Still, EVE's point and click was cool, thanks to the algorithms that allowed "speed tanking".
Anyways, dealing weapons is fun!
UIT! w0OT!
I dont want another EVE, i want a similair game but that is unique in itself. Thus, vendetta!!!!
Is there anything symbolic of the name, besides the obvious Serco vs. Itani vendetta?

Well, the name 'Vendetta' is certainly congruent with the combative nature of the game. But, honestly, it was an early development "working title" that we just never really got around to changing. Partially due to the chaotic nature of our earlier development process, with the company nearly shutting down and then reviving and finally shipping with very little time to prepare.
Anyways, dealing weapons is fun!
Indeed. My main character is an enterprising UIT named Nahin Lor. I sell nearly every item in the game at a little above station price for those unable to or too lazy to get faction standing, licenses, required achievments, etc., offering delivery services, too. I make a killing, and have fun doing so. :-)

You haven't seen anything yet. The PvP here is phenominal.

Welcome Ungnaught,
I to am new to VO, and I have also been a Eve subscriber.
I found that Eve was fun until it got to the point where skills were taking months as opposed to hours to complete, then I found it became a boring grind with no real purpose but make money.
Vo is more of a "get in there and have fun" type of game, with enough content to keep the interest without the frustration.
Fly safe. :)

One key difference here is that what are "skills" in EVE are "licenses" here. In VO, skill is what you develop in real-time. If you become an amazing pilot, then delete your character and start over, you will still be an amazing pilot. Your gear will be less impressive for a bit, but you still have the knowledge and reflexes.
Put another (and likely more applicable) way, all the grinding in the world won't help you if you suck.
You can always join IPA Dr. Lecter. We all suck here.
But if I joined you, that would change. And we can't have that.
i can just taste the cocaine in the air when i read Ungnaught's posts.
