VO 1.8.140

Aug 21, 2010 incarnate link
VO 1.8.140 includes:

- Gray hive is now called the Milanar Hive, and is made entirely of specially named bots, including a new type of Collector. Many other changes will follow soon, with Siepos and Prosus hives appearing in Serco and Itani territory respectively. Different hives will have unique looks, drops, behaviours, etc. All will play into the Manufacturing (crafting) system.
- Client now includes a framerate limiter, under Options, Graphics. This can be set to a desired FPS, such as 60, to help newer hardware run cooler. It currently defaults to 0 (unlimited). The defaults will probably change to 120 once we know the feature works well.

Expect more Hive changes next week.
Aug 21, 2010 Whistler link
Excellent. Thanks! You got that framerate limiter out fast
Aug 21, 2010 slime73 link
Running OS 10.6.4 here (with the recent graphics update) using an nvidia 9400 and a Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz.

Mouse movement now seems stuttery/choppy, although fps is very high (this is without the FPS limiter).

My client locks up completely when I change the FPS limiter value to something other than 0 and hit apply.
Aug 21, 2010 incarnate link
We're now thinking the framerate limiter only works on Windows, in its current implementation.

Slime, the limiter code should not be executed at all if it's set to 0, not sure what you're seeing, but we're going to double check it on our macs.
Aug 21, 2010 slime73 link
Yeah, to clarify when I change it to something other than 0 (i.e. 60), my client freezes. But I guess that makes sense if it only works under Windows right now. :p
Aug 21, 2010 incarnate link
I think Ray just found the issue. Probably another patch shortly.

Note, this is the fix for the frame limiter. Still no clue why your mouse movement was any different than before.
Aug 21, 2010 Maalik link
Are (dynamic) hive bots still supposed to give weapons XP? They don't seem to.
Aug 21, 2010 incarnate link
Ok, patch is out for framerate limiter issue. Maalik, I've relayed your report to Michael.
Aug 21, 2010 slime73 link
So it turns out my erratic mouse stuff was because I was quite a few KM away from the center of my sector. My bad. :p
Aug 21, 2010 momerath42 link
I'm failing to see why weapons XP would stop being awarded. I'll look at that, and anything else you guys find... in the morning. *yaawwn*
Aug 21, 2010 ShankTank link
Great to see ya guys building on the Hive Skirmishes. The dynamic hive really is the most polished PVE feature of VO, considering how smooth and well-paced the battles are. The next test bed superdense sectors really should go to the Hive Skirmishes :P
Aug 21, 2010 Ticho link
Indeed, only combat XP seems to be coming from Milanar bots - although I only tried assaults, collectors and guardians.

Also, some of the items dropped by these bots displayed price "??c" in stations. However, I haven't been playing for a while now, so I don't know whether this is new.
Aug 21, 2010 Surbius link
Hey, why not completely get rid of weapons experience and have previous weapon levels focus on combat levels?

It simplifies the levels aspect of the game, and I'm also under the impression that the leveling system to-date is planned to have no more levels, or did I mistake someone?

Of course I can understand that it's irrelevant now in the grander scheme of things, but it's just a thought.

Thanks a lot!

This update was COOL!! Really!

Here is an old Athlon with GeForce 8600GT running Linux. Before update the system peaked 85* while VGA raised up 92*C. And frequent heat locks...

I fixed it in 40 and 60 max. Now it remained 69*/50*C GPU/CPU. COOL^2!
During combat/jump/roid fiels, kept below 66* most time.

I saw no difference in gameplay.

I still need another keyboard, both my USB and PS2 are crappy now. But this is unrelated whine...
Aug 21, 2010 Keybounce link
Mac Os 10.5.8, PPC, 9550 mobility card, iBook G4.

Activating the limiter at 60 fps seemed to have no effect.
Activating the limiter at 10 fps caused vendettaclient to lock up and become non-responsive, requiring a force-quit.

EDIT: I can't seem to find any "attach file". So I'm including these in-line

These come from opening vendettaclient.app, after all patching is done, with the "10 fps" limit in the options. I get one (maybe two) frames of the initial login page, and then a lockup.

Alright, who changed the iup doubleclick number from 65544 to 8388616? I'm looking at you, ray. :p

(is there a better way to get the button ids other than writing manually testing them? iup.LMBUTTON is defined but the others don't seem to be).

EDIT: Nevermind, a lot of them are defined but the doubleclick one seems to be wrong now.

To all Mac people who had framerate limiter lockups: This should be solved in 1.8.40.2, which has been out for about an hour.

If anyone has other problems, or continued problems, please let us know.
