Forum - Alias
Is it possible to put an alias over your account name for use on the forums or would it be possible to implement such a feature?
Not at this time. Someday we might allow a person to pick from their character names or something, but we would have to lock it to the first one chosen (to keep people from switching constantly), which gets into other issues.
At present, we just settle for saying "The username you select will be shown in messages you post to the Vendetta Online forums" when a person creates a new account.
You can also submit a support ticket asking to have your username changed, if you like.

Thank you for your reply. I don't mind having my name out there, it's already out there on several open source projects and my employer's website.
I was more thinking along the lines of account security.

At one time is was easy to make a trial account. In fact, this is a trial account. The only purpose of me having this account is to post on the forums in character.
It is discouraged from posting in the same thread, with supporting positions, from multiple aliases. I have on occasion had aliases that disagreed with each other.

Why the hell would you need to lock it to one char?
If you have few alts can't you use different ones at different times?
What if you end up not using that one?

Basically I don't want people shifting identities all the time. The main purpose of the forum is general communication (rather than role-playing, although we do have a specific area for that), and that is not aided by having people change who they are frequently. Roda cites a specific usage (agreeing with yourself).
We could let people change their displayed character name by submitting a support ticket and getting administrative approval, the same as we do for account names now. Just.. not let them spastically shift back and forth between all their character names all the time.

Response I recieved from submitting a support ticket to change username:
"Unfortunately, due to the way we designed our backend, it's not possible to change usernames.
The only option is to create another account and they we can transfer your characters to that new account.
Thanks for playing Vendetta Online."

Yeah, it's far simpler for us to do it that way.
I think it might be cool (though not necessarily a good use of developer time) to be able to choose from any of your character names any time you post to the RP forum. Outside that forum, where most discussions should be OOC, that would be harmful due to sockpuppetry.
I personally think you should be able to choose your account name or any player name under your account, but only once per thread. So if you post in a thread as a specific username any future posts would show up as that same user (no drop-down select for followup responses). Don't see this as being difficult to implement and likely would prevent all (or all I can think of) forms of abuse that allowing to post under multiple names would cause.
