the new hive bots - how to squish them?

Hi,

after one of the latest patches, the hive bots learned to team up, not bumping into roids and how to target an enemy.

I've as much as no experience in "real" group fights...so could someone give me some hints on how to dodge one bot while destroying the other one? Barrel Role doesn't work and doing randomg things does not work, too. So is there something like a key maneuver to dodge them successfully?

Or: How do you fight 'em?

Don't constantly spray if you don't plan on hitting. Bots are scared of too many shots, nice to go backwards a bit to lure them forwards and then to break forward, yourself, get close, and hit the A/A retractile with some nice energy.

However, spraying used as suppressing fire works if there are two bots that you want to keep controlled. If one of them is getting too close or attacking at too wide of an angle from his wing mate, simply fire some shots in his direction. Even if they miss I can assure you that that bot will back off. Think of it as like herding space robots with lasers.

Very good writeup, in my opinion.

My addition would be that some bots prefer to attack from the rear (I call them assbiters). They constantly try to get in a good position to shoot from (i.e. your six), and rarely, if ever, fire when in front.

If I meet one, I give them priority, because they can carve up my ship something mean. But then again, I use a dual-megaposi Centaur.

Bots do some real stupid crap sometimes. When one drifts out of range, the other one is prolly like, 50 m/s from your backside, so you just keep turning until they both asplode.

@Shank yeh, the first things you said (scared bots, don't spread if you don't want the bots to fly back) where known to me. But the thing with the "herding" is a nice hint, tnx.

@toshiro I tried that (centaur and 2 megaposis) but I don't like the megaposi, it's hard to target with and it has a high energy consumption...just curious: what do you put into the small slot? rockets? missiles? or pew-pew?

@Chaosis ;) kay

Detructor: Nothing, really. I just like the punch chainfired megaposis pack. And I only fire short bursts, which makes the energy consumption a non-issue for botting.

work on firing short bursts. you'll end up improving your aim, and indirectly your PvP skills.

uhm, okay...

> I just like the punch chainfired megaposis pack.
you use a plugin for that? (remembering that there is a plugin for something like that...some ppl talked about that)

> And I only fire short bursts, which makes the energy consumption a non-issue for botting.

huh? which energy cell are you using? I'm using fast charge...maybe my fire bursts are too long...

Mega posi has the second best energy consumption in the game (by that I mean its 66.67 DPE), next to the HX... but the mega posi also has baddass velocity, weight, and DPS (unlike the HX) making it pretty much the most well balanced weapon in the game.

My XP:

I use taur with full gauss. Best you can fit, great auto-aim. And a Heavy cell for combat.

F/A off. Except for quick on/off to reduce distance.

Keep allways moving one direction at least. Add another vector (key, direction) frequently and random. Example, left on, alternate up/down/fwd/back.

Use Sport for distance control, notice when they turbo on you and start shooting. Dodge then shoot back, from closer range.

And Tosh's tip, allways watch your six = right radar. Try to keep it clear, i.e., all red dots allways on left radar. Position yourself to ensure that.

Next tip, turn 90* and hit turbo. Then another sharp turn and increase distance to bots. now 180* turn, dodge then nail them turboing to hit you.

Ahahahahahahahahaha! Thanks, that was great.

I tend to bot with either Annies and guass or Megaposi and AAPs depending on whether I feel like aiming or not. Hog 2's are good botters and cheap...

Keeping on the outer edges of the battle helps to control the ganking and aggressive tactics minimises the time your occupied but does increase the damage you take.

F/A off except for between battles I use it to correct my overall course.

Make sure you have key ramp turned off if your using the key board.

I prefer a fast charge cell for its higher generation rate.

And what about leaving the hive alone?
Ye mess with em ye go b00m, don't see what's wrong with that.

They should make the bots ten times harder!
And do not dare to whine about it!

die well : )

AActually Id love it if grey space was populated by much harder bots....

Me too. I support having more challenging variants in Grey that also give a ton more exp too.

Because why the fuck not?
