Playing VO Music Externally

Mar 05, 2010 oreoz link
I really enjoy the music of vendetta online, probally my favorite part of the game to be honest.

But, I cannot listen to this music without logging in and running a full 3d application using unneccassary system resources. Not to mention the requirement of flying for a couple of minutes to simply switch the track.

Because of these reasons I would really enjoy the ability to listen to it via an external player such as vlc, but I do not know how to extract the music. :\

Is extracting it even possible? I'd guess it is contained in the "media.rlb" file, but after googling I have no idea what kind of file this is and am assuuming it was created by Guild Software... I don't mean to violate any TOS/EULA if you don't want me directly accessing the music, but if you don't mind, please tell me :D

Thanks.

The music in the game is from a period when GSW had a third-party investor (Strategy First), and the music is protected by copyright not in their possession.

I will look at the possibility of making the music independently available, although we may do it in the form of some sort of merchandise, like Amazon's media downloads / CDs. If people would be into that. It's been on my back-burner list for awhile.

That sounds great, I would certainly be willling to spend some money on it.

On a related subject, how did you make the music of Vendetta?

I only wrote one track, which was used during alpha, and was made with a (now) older version of Reason, my Kurzweil K2000VP, and.. stuff. Mostly Reason. But only the oldschool vets even remember that track.

The rest were done by a pro in Canada, who worked for our publisher. I didn't have time to do anything more myself. I may have talked shop with him about what he used, but it was long enough ago that I don't remember.

Heh, yes, that one's mine. Originally just a test track in Reason, later used for our first trailer that pitched the game to Strategy First, then also used to test the music system in the early alphas. Not a piece I consider particularly great or anything :).

I would certainly pay for mp3 downloads from Amazon. Played the trial for a couple weeks and had fun but not enough to sub. But loved the music.

/bump

and if you gave access to paying customers to DL the soundtrack, I would pay for a month just to get it.

Cool, noted. It's on my list, and I've gotten as far as looking into how the amazon stuff works. But we have a lot going on right now, and this isn't a top priority.
