I'm excited to see Guild market the Vendetta game engine NAOS. Good luck at the developer's conference. I hope it brings well deserved attention to the technologies innovated by Guild.

What does NAOS stand for?

It isn't an acronym, actually, it's just capitalized for purely aesthetic reasons at the time. It comes from one of the names for the star Zeta Puppis, which also boils down to "ship" in greek. So, kind of a.. ship that can take you on a voyage to other worlds. Or something along those lines.

It also sounded kind of cool (I pronounce it like "chaos", although that may not be right, but.. I don't really care!) and didn't seem to be used for anything in the same industry.

I must say, this was completely unexpected and equally awesome! There's got to be some studios out there interested in a complete MMO engine like this, and it could potentially give youguys some real financial security.

What was the interest in NAOS like at the GDC?

GDC is still going on. Today is the last day. We most likely wouldn't be able to talk about interested parties anyways. John may be able to say whether interest was generally good, bad, or neutral. after he gets back.

So Inc, what was the interest in NAOS like?

Some academic interest. Not a huge amount so far. I wasn't really expecting to be flooded with interest, but at least it's "out there" as a potential product now, with some associated information.

Er? Actually selling a game was always our intent. The engine thing was a secondary possibility. I get excited about creating gameplay.. not middleware. But, that said, there's a lot of potential for the two development areas to help one another and grow the business, making more resources available to us. That's worth pursuing.
