Reporting Bugs

Feb 27, 2010 incarnate link
Just a reminder to people, that unless a bug is catastrophic in nature (sectors down, game down, game unplayable) or highly exploitable and requires private reporting (money, cargo exploits, etc).. most bugs should be reported via a new thread on the Bugs Forum. This allows more players and reporting individuals to be involved than simply the initial person, which lets us more easily gather more information, and more quickly address the issue.

If the issue requires immediate attention, or needs privacy, then the Customer Support System is better. But for most needs, please post threads to the Bugs Forum.

Maybe some people don't like posting to the bugs forum because trolls often take over the threads and it goes unmoderated.

peytros: My other post was about the old web form, not the bug reporter app. they don't do the same thing or post to the same place. Plus I don't think that's what he's saying..

anon1: not.. really. Most threads are just between us and a couple of people reporting and confirming issues.

anon1, I don't see any trolls here, with the possible exception of yourself...

Oh that was helpful. Trolls in the Bugs forum are a rarity. I do moderate there, but it is seldom necessary to intervene.

The point of the thread is that bugs should be reported in the Bugs forum in order to allow further discussion and feedback. Sometimes the "bug" turns out to be an issue specific to one individual's computer, and sometimes it's a real bug that is more easily found after several clarifying posts from players. Several players are quite adept at applying the scientific process to bugs and isolating the conditions under which they occur.

The exception would be if a bug is thought to be so serious that it requires an immediate response or if there is something about the bug that requires privacy.
