Fibre broadband

I suppose general is the best thread for this, feel free to move it Whistler.

Folk my have noticed that BT ( British Telecom , not Blood Thirsty, stop giggleing at the back ) is rolling out Fibre/ copper to UK homes. Bit by bit. that is fibre to the end of the street, copper into the house. So, I thought I would give it a try.

It is fast. 28 meg down, 6 meg up. My ping for VO used to be 160 , it is now about 133mS +/- 1 mS. Given my historical affinity with things electrical, that is really impressive. Actually Scotland > Milwaukee > Back, that is staggeringly fast.

I appreciate that at £24/ month it may seem a bit pricey for some folk, but I think it is worth the cost, which I think will fall over time.

Why am I posting this ? Simple, to encourage european players. Over the years I have seen the argument, " I can't play this, my net is too slow for twitch " many times. I do appreciate that this will not be available for many, but if you can afford it and it is available then I would suggest giving it a try, I want to see more folk playing VO at the same time as me.

about 120 bucks here for phone, 4 tvs and 25/15 internet from verizon. Sure i might be able to get it a little cheaper from comcast. But I wouldn't give them money for half the price even, have a grudge against them from years back. They took over from my local cable company I guess a dozen years ago, that very day they gave us a 50% rate hike, with no improvement in services.

FiOS is the way to go here in the States. WTF is with fiber to the curb, copper into the box, though?

I think by that you can skirt about 20% of installation costs, Lecter. I might be wrong, though.

yea it's cheaper to install that way id bet. limits the maximum speed though.

although if you can keep the cable run to like 50 yards or so, you can do gigabit Ethernet to the fiber box i suppose.

Jesus, just eat the 20% and pass it on the the customers. Fucking modern Brits.
