The station looks great!
If a frigate were to dock I imagine it would simply attach itself to the station with a thin arm through which people and materials could be passed.
The large size of the docking bays would accomodate some much larger ships than we have now, though. Perhaps a vastly scaled-up Centaur, for instance.

I like it. It looks like you'll have to go a little deeper into the docks to get in and actually dock. Finally, no more crazy 200m/s dockers! I hope.
Mmmm... I saw a lot of things that look REALLY good. A couple of questions, though:
1) How big can these scale? For example, could the nation home sectors have a base like this approx the size of the center roid in sector 14?
2) Is it possible to make segments of it dynamic? Eg, the opening capital ship bay in Homeworld, and turrets
3) You mentioned "consistantly on varied hardware". How much of a performance hit will one of these carry? Compared to a standard station, what's the poly count?
4) Will any of these larger sections do anything, or is it just the docking bays that perform a function as it is in the current stations?
5) If and when player-constructed stations become available, would this "component" station be available to us, or just the "outposts"?
6) How do the many attachments of this station fit into your dynamic economy roadmap? How about your "very large ships" roadmap?
7) Are you planning any new, larger ships scheduled for release along with the larger station?
Any answers you provide would be great, and I'll be sure to preserve them for posterity on my website. :)

yeah, but if your ship isn't invisible, since it takes a couple of seconds for you to gain control once outside of station (texture loading and junk), you'd die constantly. As for the dissappearing instantly, well, I already said you should go inside the bay and the doors should close and then open and by the time they re-open you're not there anymore. Actually, that'd solve a the invul too. When undocking, you'd apppear inside closed doors, then they'd open and you could fly out. :)

question, are the larger ships only going to get as big as that docknig bay untill they require a hose to attatch to the station, or are there larger sized bays?

Chances are that certain stations will have parts that are "scaled up" to the degree that they can accept ships as large as a Frigate, but these will only be in core systems, so your Frigate is a floating base unto itself.
Maybe you will need to ask for permission to dock a frigate.

I wonder if rather than being able to own an entire station, players will be able to own a "component" of a station. Hence, with the right paperwork and approval, you could add on your own little living quarters or laboraory component to an already huge station.
Owning a component of a station, you really should be able to hire a tug that can move your component to another sector, and let you place it to your specifcation.
