Newbie Help

Feb 03, 2010 stevencollison link
Hi All, I just registered after thoroughly enjoying the trial period.

Couple of things I'm having trouble with though, wondered if any of you could help?

1)I have only one mission available to me, its "Additional Dentek Processors Required". I have completed this mission, and have been awarded the Light Weapons points appropriately. However it's still the only mission on my board, and now no matter how many processor cores I retrieve (20+ at the last count) the mission will not mark itself complete or advance to the next one. Is this a problem with the game or am I doing something wrong? My Licenses are 1/2/0/1/1, if that helps.

2)Related to the one above, thinking it was a glitch I made a new character and tried to start again from scratch, and I've been presented with all the training missions again, is this necessary? I kinda figure if I'm creating a second character I should be able to skip the training sessions.

3) Space seems pretty empty around me, I'm UIT, are there any events/group missions/convoys I can join in on, probably as cannon fodder given my level :-), but involvement none the less.

Any help would be vastly appreciated,

Many Thanks
Steve

Maybe that is still your active mission? If you want a new mission, click 'abort' on the bottom of the PDA to end your current mission. You should be getting combat practice missions. If you are creating a new character, then you have already taken the training missions, and you don't need to take some of them, just a fight test. But then again, I haven't made new characters since they redid the newbie sectors, so there may be some required missions... If you need to do some required missions, then you already know whats happening and do not need to read every bit of text it says. You can probably power through them in a couple minutes max. Regarding contact with other players, you may not want to meet them. This is a part of your character's path; you might want to be a fighter, trader, pirate, etc. This decision is particularly important for the future of your character, so try not to make a hasty decision. I am not particularly good as a sorting hat, so you may want to talk to other people here.

Steve, check your mission logs. The mission might still be running or have a button for you to push to finish it :)

All new characters have to do the training missions to get out of the newby sector, yes it's a bore but you can click 'next' on the reading ones pretty fast..

As for your last question, most people don;t hang out around the training areas for long. Greyspace is where most of the action is, but you'll find yourself attacked by pirates and various other people there if you decide to go..

Welcome

1) Did you happen to log out during the mission, and if so did you log back in from the same computer or a different one? Normally this shouldn't affect the mission, but I've been running into a similar issue on the test server under the above conditions with many missions. Also, check your mission logs to see the last message sent.

2) The Training missions are required for all new characters, they don't take that long if you skim through the text.

3) Hive Skirmishes are pretty cool group missions you can do once you reach combat level 3. There is also group combat practice which becomes available when you create a group.

"2) The Training missions are required for all new characters, they don't take that long if you skim through the text."

According to the original post, he had noticed this and the question was if it is really necessary.

Skimming through the text does not make the fact any less stupid.

I've considered writing a plugin that runs through the tutorials automatically.

All characters have to take the tutorial, which for anyone who is not a complete noob, essentially consists of hitting 'continue' about 4 times, undocking, hitting continue 5 or 6 more times, docking, hitting continue a few times, undocking, hitting continue a few times, docking, hitting continue a few times, undocking, and warping out. Why can't we have a "skiptutorials" option in the config.ini file, or something?

i thought there was a skip tutorials hack in the config.ini and all you had to do was change it from a 0 to a 1 or something.

No, I don't think so. There is a variable you can change to make it run the tutorial on next dock, but IIRC it won't let you jump out of the training sector until you've completed the tutorial.

oh that must be what it is then. Yeah since they made it that you can't leave the newb sector with out doing the tutorials that little work around hasn't been so helpful.

If I see you in space newb, I will without a doubt help you back to your home station. :) Welcome to VO.

What is of concern to me is that one of my missions got "stuck" on the board after the victory conditions were met. I'd like to know more about what happened to see if I need to do anything to fix it. I'm also interested to hear that people are playing missions I was involved in.

I say just abandon the mission if you can. Fer Pahser's sake, I hope its just a fluke.
