I agree that players using the information from the plugin will have a hard time finding out alts, watching the "Active Players" page is a more effective method.
You, the administrator of the server, however, could easily do that. First thing that comes to mind is matching players by their IP addresses, but I believe other metrics can be used as well.
I haven't looked at the code of the plugin, but I believe you are honest in saying it won't send data unless the player explicitly decides to do so. I guess people using the plugin have no other choice but to trust you with their info.

I have looked at the code myself and I didn't see anything that might be stealing "private" information. As far as I've seen, the plugin doesn't even store character ids on the server, just player names.
Also: There are a dozen plugins around, so I figured that releasing plugins to the community wasn't an issue, but I guess they've been getting permission from the devs?

xxcn, you're right, people would have to trust me not to do naughty things like match user names to IPs. I don't think it's that much of a stretch though, since I'm really not interested in alts and all related drama, and I think my past history supports that claim.
On the other hand, if people really don't trust me with their "private" infos, they're free not to use my plugin and de-buddy all their buddies while flying only in empty sectors and never saying anything.
Myth: I believe mine is the first plugin that uses a server, so I was a little nervous about the lack of precedent.
