Feedback on new superdense sectors

I have spent several hours up in Deneb surveying the new super dense sectors and have a few comments for your consideration.

Loading times are very long. Perhaps only the immediate area needs to be loaded before the player enters and then finish loading on an as-needed basis or in the background?

Radar display is different between fog and ion areas. The effect seems to be a bit inconsistant. Also I think the display wireframes could be made user selectable so those who dont like them can turn the effect off.

Radar extenders do not seem to be working properly. I have been using a Raptor 2 with an XX extender that should have roughly a 3000 m range but I seem to be limited to no more then 2000 m range. I realise a longer range is not a desired result so perhaps changing the ranges of the radar extenders might be in order? Raptor - 1000 m and XX small -1000 m and the large port to 1500....

Speaking of inconsistant areas storm exit points and fog exits are also different. I would like to see either 3000m anywhere is ok or fixed exits in both situations...

Overall the effect reminds me of being in a fog bound swamp more then in a space Nebula type area. Still I like it.....

The loading time thing is still in development. We have several options for solutions, but station conquest is the priority for now.

Radar extenders are not absolute. Different fogs will allow different relative extension ranges. The descriptions date from when ion storms were the only fog, so that will have to be updated.

I'm not sure what you mean by "fog exits". If you mean plotting a nav route, and it spitting out a possible exit vector.. yes, that will most likely be different. It's calculated at a different time, is simplistic and advisory at best. But, yes, we'll be revisiting how we do entry and exit points before fog becomes more widely used. Making a given path more likely to be traversed will aid in stalking tactics in fog, and the like.

The fog you can pretty much exit anywhere while the storm exit is limited to a single location...The two different methods just strike me as an inconsistancy...

BTW a black fog could be very interesting....

Superdense roids + fog looks just awesome from when I've flown through it. I've also seen some radar oddities, IE the turret in-sector showing up on TLS at 12km when they aren't occluded by the closely packed roids. Besides the long loading time they rock.

Yes, and as I already mentioned in other thread, I also intermittently saw other players on radar at large distances, just like Speedy describes he saw the turret.

PaKettle: ..yes. That's because ion storms and fogs are not the same thing.

I don't remember what I set the radar-extension multiplier to for the Deneb sectors. It might be pretty large. We'll check it out.

Tested both a densed stormed and fogged sector last night. Things of beauty they are!
