puh.. http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/racestats_raw seems to be still getting updated with the complete stats. So my list will keep working. That's good enough for me.

(yey ..I beat my g5 time today)
Jan 02, 2010 Breazle link
ye i was just looking at that, im getting further down the charts on your website cause im not beating my previous bests, but i am at the top ingame
Jan 02, 2010 mr_spuck link
Huh .. yeah somethings fishy there.

I made a backup of the stats right after the update. http://kitchen.nfshost.com/vendetta_racetracks/rt_page_backup

you had a 0:43 in g5: Sedina G-5 | 43583 | Centurion Superlight | Breazle
and now it's only a 0:56: Sedina G-5 | 56634 | Centurion Superlight | Breazle

Sweet, I love seeing a suggestion of mine becoming reality
Jan 02, 2010 Breazle link
ye, guess it needs to clear all data every month? or are you only interested in the best ever records?
Jan 02, 2010 mr_spuck link
Best ever. That's how it used to work.. only the best times were listed in that file.

Looks like times from before the update get overwritten. I made a couple of runs after the 0:53, so for new ones it seems to work as it should.

I'm totally derailing this thread here :P

so mine should be back to 43 now then?
Jan 02, 2010 mr_spuck link
Nope.. cause you made that time before the update.

Good work this last year, Devs. I'm impressed how you overcome adversity and persevere with the dream of VO. It's taking shape. I look forward to the new station conquest. Persistent vulnerable property will focus player interaction and make sector geography strategic.

That whole re-code they did awhile back is really paying off now.

Do you retain a duel badge after your rating has dipped below the level that was necessary to attain it?
Jan 02, 2010 ladron link
Yes, Maalik. I asked mom the same thing last night.

This is obviously pretty exploitable, but not so much as the free money for sitting afk on a capship thing.

A possible fix for the exploit would be to somehow screen out duelists who have attained their rankings by killing the same person over and over again. It could be done with raw numbers (anyone who has won a duel against the same person over x number of times), or as a function of the number of times they've won a duel against others (some function of the median and the mean, perhaps, I haven't given much thought as to the exact statistical specifics). In the latter case, it would not bite anyone who has dueled a ton, because their high duel numbers are more even across the board.

Of course, this, too could be gamed, but it would require effort commensurate with gaming the mentor system, rather than the free-for-all that currently exists. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but this is the one that occurred to me immediately upon reading these comments.

We could certainly limit the weight given to repetitive wins between two players. We could also require the player to maintain X rating for Y time with N opponent distribution and Z minimum number of duels during Y.. to receive the "badge". The badges could also be lost for inactivity (falling off the Duel list), or even have the rating itself begin to fall on a linear or curved scale as inactive time passes. This is all possible, but not exactly a staggering concern or need to fix an "exploit" yet, as there's no gain from "exploiting". I might be more concerned if there were some equipment handout or financial gain, but there isn't yet.. for a reason.

Stripping badges for rating loss will cause people to not want to fight against low-ranked newer people who might be strong players, as they don't want their rating to drop. I don't want to do that. They have enough problems with that in Chess.

Don't you think that the first dynamic stations should be in Deneb? The current circumstances (Itani get in-system stations and Serco need to traverse a wormhole) are pretty unfair. Turning Deneb into a dynamic station only system might test the strategic value of taking control of stations a lot more than just sticking a few in grey space next to a whole bunch of other stations we can already dock in: it'd be novel but I don't see a lot of use (unless the stations were in wormhole sectors).
Jan 02, 2010 missioncreek2 link
I haven't seen much activity in Deneb, while there is always someone in gray space. Therefore, I think Inc is on the right track putting conquerable stations in gray first. Wormhole sectors is a great idea. B8 would be first on my list.
Jan 02, 2010 ShankTank link
Ehhhh, if that were the case I would say one on the Ukari side of the Ukari-Latos WH and one on the Edras side of the Edras-Pelatus WH. Think outside B-8.

AMEN!

gray sounds good but odia and sedina are too busy as it is...
an edras station would be nice.

I don't want to polarize these new stations to only serco/itani conflict, I think their first use is better suited to the more generalized combat of Gray. Other changes are planned for Deneb. Yes, I'm aware of the relative imbalances of the current system. All in good time.
