Hello,
My son recently downloaded this game with my permission and played through the 8 hour trial. He really enjoyed it so i figured for an early Christmas present I would buy him a subscription. Ever since I have started paying for this game he has constantly complained about being blown up in safe areas by older stronger players.
I wanted to see what all this fuss was about so I monitored his play time. Over the course of two weeks he was blown up in safe space more times then I can count by griefers who demanded that he give them more money then was even in his bank account, On top of that some people did not even bother to ask and simply called him a stupid newb.
I would like to inform the creators of this game that I will not be paying for my child to be verbally harassed on the internet by a bunch of losers. Until this game can be made safer for lower level characters and more family friendly we will not be customers of Vendetta Online.
Thank you for your time.

Obvious troll is obvious.
lol wut?
mega het,
Thank you for your constructive feedback. While piracy is a part of the game and nowhere is completely safe, no one deserves to be called a stupid newb. I think you'll find most online communities have their share of maturity-challenged players (spend a couple hours reading WoW's general chat) and Vendetta is no different in that regard. Perhaps your son is not ready for an online game rated "T". If chat is the only problem there are several commands you may find useful including /ignore <player> and /leave <channel>. If verbal harassment continues to be a problem then contacting the devs and guides is the best course of action. That being said, hopefully your post has given those involved in whatever incident that sealed the deal something to think about. I like to think most of us here (those who have posted included) would have the decency not to verbally harass anyone in that manner. There's a lot of friendly back and forth that goes on in channel 100 with regards to PvP, hopefully that doesn't get mistaken for harassment, but it sounds like what you experienced may have been a step above and beyond that in which case it should be reported.
The fact that you posted here (rather than emailing the devteam discretely) tells me that you are looking for some kind of community support, which is why I am taking the time to respond to your post. Vendetta Online is an awesome game, sorry that you and your son couldn't stay.

Yeah, this is shmizal. Another very sad attempt to turn the community against the developers and the spirit of the game.
Get lost, you know you don't want to keep me on ignore when you lose literally every battle you fight with me.

Thank you for your reply. I noticed this game had a chat filter which I enjoyed as it kept my soon from reading to much profanity that was being spammed by people ruining this game. If the devs could add settings that would also block words like "stupid" "newb"(and its variations) "moron" which would make the game much more tolerable for my family and I. Also maybe if there was a punishment system for killing newer players in safe space like a twenty four hour ban or something along those lines.
Thank you for your response again Phaserlight.

This game is still in development, and one of the ongoing efforts is to put natural-feeling mechanisms in place that do just that, such as defense turrets in nation space. It's a work in progress. A game like this can never be, and should never be, completely "safe". If you're looking for a game where you can just be safe and not die, avoid games like this. Most players go into "unsafe" and even "safe" space and get killed very often, and accept that it's part of the game, and it is the risk that is fun. A ban for simply killing a new player is ridiculous, but the devs are working on regions where new players can practice that are relatively protected, and it is emphasized often that "gray space" is only to be ventured into at risk after becoming experienced at basic combat. If we protected every new player completely, the game would die because even the new players would have no fun.
I think a customizable chat filter that allows you to enter specific words to be omitted is an excellent idea (I don't know, does it already do that? I never filter my chat). That being said, compared to your average online crowd, this is quite possibly the friendliest. But even a friendly crowd can get out of hand, and can seem cliquish to some new people.
On a side note, "for my family and I" is not correct; it should read "for my family and me" (sorry for being a grammar Nazi... that one just happens to be one of the most misused grammar rules in the English language, and a pet peeve of mine...)

mega het:
There is also a /ignore command, which allows a player to ignore the chat of any desired player in-game (which can seriously clean up the chat). I strongly suggest using it.
Also, as others have said, there is no safe space with the exception of the first training sector. However, he can request to be escorted by players in-game, which can seriously up his safety.
sidenote: Chaos... you harp on that but don't harp on the lack of apostrophe? Oy. :p

Professor Chaos is proving my point. Ridiculing someone for a simple spelling mistake. I am sorry my family and I do not live up to your expectations in the spelling department.
Now back on topic, how is my son ever supposed to learn how to play this game when he is constantly being killed by griefers and NO ONE does anything about it? The single sector safe zone is nice but I believe a whole system just for newbies would be better. Or having stricter penalties for killing players in safe space such as a 24 hour ban. I know for a fact my son would have more fun if he did not have to worry about being killed every time he went to try to level up.

I think his tone is being misinterpreted... it seemed he was trying to be nice about it rather than ridiculing.

Depending on the time of day you play, if your son asks, people WILL do something about it. If he asks on channel 4357 for escort, it is likely that someone will respond and help him out (do make sure that a pirate doesn't pose as a friendly however... check out this wiki for some tips/tricks to avoid being duped).
Getting killed is part of the game however, as is learning to avoid being killed. This game is not for those who want things to be safe everywhere... the danger is part of what makes it exciting. Also, I strongly recommend starting out on a Serco or Itani character, as their space tends to have fewer pirates.

It seems that I spoke too soon. I am severely disappointed in those of you who took this moron seriously.
Yeah, this is shmizal. Another very sad attempt to turn the community against the developers and the spirit of the game.
I would hate to believe this is true, as it would indicate that VPR is making a concerted effort to undermine a core tenet of Vendetta Online's design philosophy, and one of the things that makes it truly stand apart from other MMO's.
Come on guys. Grow up, loose the passive aggressive disorder, and get back into the spirit of VO.

ladron: if we're being trolled we're being trolled.
If we aren't, then we've lost a player.
Either way, it's a sad state that deserves some attention.
to respond to your edit (and Impavid): No, it isn't Shlim... and we would never approve of or encourage such a thing.

"Losing a player" isn't a "sad state that deserves some attention."
No game could possibly hope to appeal to every potential player. Some of the things that make VO actually fun to play (as opposed to EVE, WoW, and the like) are major turn-offs to people who aren't mature enough to separate game from reality. If you're the kind of person that's going to go crying to daddy when you get blown up by pirates, or even when you get called a "stupid noob", VO is clearly not your game. It would be a huge waste of energy to get upset about losing players who wouldn't have any fun playing the game anyway.

Meh. Some people just need to be guided to the light is all.
Though cutting back on the "stupid newb"s would be a good thing.

Ladrons personality is exactly what is turning my son and I off from this game. I'm sorry but unless this game gets 24 hour a day moderation then this game will not be for us.

Agreed, but I can't really think of a time that someone has been called a "stupid newb" when they were exhibiting cognitive functions at least equivalent to those of a lab rat.

You trolled, you got called on it, end of story. Log back in on your real account and blow up some Dentek Collectors to blow off steam.
EDIT: Though it would be helpful if Gulliblephyr over here would stop feeding the troll...

Catch 22 there... without your support, there is no chance of getting that kinda moderation. But I think the kind of moderation you are looking for is a bit more "care-bear" than most of the players who enjoy the game would approve of.
As I said, you really should take a look at the /ignore command.
