Aticephyr: the guides and devs deal with griefers, not you. If you think someone is violating the Rules of Conduct then you should report them. If you think the Rules of Conduct are not stringent enough then suggest a change. Otherwise just chill and enjoy the game.

Pointsman... I'm chill :). It seems my tone doesn't carry well over text. Nowhere here did I suggest that someone was violating RoC. The "protecting them from griefers" comment was meant to refer to my in-game actions.

Note: I've edited my previous post to take out what could be perceived as angst.

EDIT: Seems you guys are a bit upset by the word "grief"... it wasn't intended in the way you guys took it. I think there has been a bit of an overreaction here.

Welcome to the game Shelby, glad to hear you are someone enjoying yourself so far.
I agree with Atice, there are those who make your VO experience much nicer by /ignore em ingame, or just not even looking at the posts.
Careful when you venture into Greyspace, where most pirates lurk. (though some make it into nation space from time to time)
And if you ever need an escort, give a ring to VPR, who provides all services free. My ingame name is Valkyr Anason if you ever need some help.

If you are interested in the guild part of the game... here are some guilds to think about-

If you're interested in guilds less centered around combat, you might try-
TGFT (The Guild of Free Traders) - Large trading guild, full of nice folks.
PA (Phoenix Alliance) - Sort of an everything guild.
ORE (Orbital Rock Extraction) - Mining guild.

If you're interested in piracy/anti-piracy, try-
VPR (Viper) - The group of pirate hunters.
CHRN (Kharon's Shores) - Biggest pirate/griefer guild ingame.
CLM (Cargo Liberation Movement) - Pirate guild.

And if you like Serco vs. Itani kind of thing-
ONE (Big Red Ones) - Serco nationlist.
ITAN (Itan) - Itani nationalist.

I hope this served as some means of information to you, and I look forward to meeting you ingame.
:)

WTF?

"Pirate/Griefer"?

Well, at least we're the biggest, right?

Again with the calling us griefers. It's rude, disingenuous and an outright lie and you damn well know it. You want to have a discussion about griefing, I submit that the Vipers are a guild dedicated to griefing. Pirates ask for money and if we're paid we fly away. Vipers attack over and over and over. You might even say Viper exists to RUIN the gameplay of pirates. Remember when I gave up piracy for a week?

Griefing is harassment and harassment is against the RoC. I'm tired of being accused of overstepping the line of permitted behavior. It's completely unfair and unfounded.

*sigh*. As per my edit above... the word "grief" was not intended with the malice with which you took it. Calm down guys.

I was referring to Resistance37's characterization of our guild.

Pretty sure we're referencing this post, made by [VPR]Valkyr Anason:

CHRN (Kharon's Shores) - Biggest pirate/griefer guild ingame.

Point stands.

SO BACK ON TOPIC NOW:

I think we can all agree that, once a pilot leaves the training sector, there is no safety. There are only relative degrees of danger that are modified by the presence Strike Forces and traffic (plus a few other things I'm sure I've failed to mention).

I think we can all agree that if the possibility of non-consensual combat is unacceptable to a potential player, VO is probably not for them.

The discussion of pirate vs. griefer within VO is well said (mostly), but ought not to be debated here.

I hereby request a lock on this thread. It's turned into all the other threads lately...

EDIT: Heh, Whistler's faster than I am. I am hopeful that the topic can be re-achieved.

Yeah, I agree with Whistler's sum up.

Thank you.

I am going to wait a little bit longer and see if there is a better community fit for what I am after. Vendetta has potential, but I am not crazy about the faction mechanics that permit what I view as predatory actions against new players. Maybe if the game devs tighten it up, it might attract players like myself.

I remember quite clearly. VPR stated that they would continue to attack you, even if you were flying a moth, because you were KOS, as our policy has always been for every pirate. Every time a Viper approached you, you would log out in mid-space, vanish, and reappear seconds later in a different system on your other character, going back and forth between Impavid and tumblemonster to avoid being attacked and losing cargo. The devs actually had to change the game mechanics to try to prevent you from taking advantage of this exploit. You refused to just play the game, be a man, and allow yourself to be destroyed with some dignity. You had to cheat to weasel your way out of getting blown up. Of course, the entire time, you were spewing an endless stream of profanity on channel 100 as well, cursing the pathetic Viper griefers who dared to even try to attack you when you didn't feel like fighting. It was really a highpoint for you.

I don't even think your own guildmates are going to defend those actions, Impavid.

Oh FFS.

I did try to guide us back. To be honest, I doubt this thread was even genuine to begin with. I have observed a pattern of threads that begin "I wonder if this is a nice community? I hear there may be asshats" then unerringly devolve into provocation and end with "See? See?!? I KNEW you were all asshats! Look how you've treated me!" Initially there were several honest and civil posts here, but the OP seemed intent on his own agenda.
