Yes it is worth it, here we have 2 evils, evil 1 are greifers, evil 2 is restrictions, we need evil 2 to eliminate evil 1, which evil will you rather have?
just replying to those who have been smacked by Vipers, There are some non-guild members out there trying to give them a bad name, by adding the tag to a 'fake' char's name and going out and killing random people.
I expected that to happen. Trust in the Vipers. They are our salvation. Personally, I think the Vipers are a step in the right direction. It shows the community policing itself rather that whining and moaning to the devs and mods about how some [EiG] guy killed them these few times. There are jerks in the game just like in real life. You just need some good people to cancel the jerks out and until now, there have not been any. There is still a bit of a shortage of Vipers, but as I said, it is definitely a step in the right direction.
sheep - well, that could have been avoided. I said loooooong ago that it would get out of hand, with the way recuiting is handled - anyone can become a member, so ofcause ppl believe the fakes...
I wont say more on that - those who need it know what i'm talking about...
EDIT: btw i won't get started on this "pirate" discussion - have too much to say on this, and i really dont want to read this thread all the way...

Whoever mentioned that I shouldn't have put Icarus as an example, let me explain briefly...
At that point in time, Icarus was really the only pirate around that was well known... and so I just mentioned him as he was really the first pirate of vendetta so to speak. It just fit well in the little "history of pirating" I was writing.

Still iffy. I could say Celkan is the only well known super-n00b of vendetta. I included him in my history. He trys to grief buses.
None of thats true, but by your logic I could say it. One of the best ways to avoid the forum mods wrath, I have found, is to not mention people by name.
Perhaps if "Icarus made a bad name for himself" was changed to
"Icarus made a name for himself" but Im not sure about that. Its not my name so I dont really care...If it was I'd scream foul.
I'm not offended or anything, I just like things very ordered with clear guidelines on what is and what is not acceptable. Though I may be chaotic evil in game, im lawful evil on the boards.

I Think the test is great and pirating aint so bad. but there is way to many pirates, and the one thing i dislike is rocket ramming, cause its so dang cheap.
And i hate how people put mines right by stations. And another problem is people should let you know if there hostile or not. Cause then u think they arnt and dont shot at them and they go right past them and they turn around, and shoot you in your but.

why oh why can't people learn to dodge rockets? some of you whiners need to learn to dodge. have you heard of the strafe keys? and do you only fly in a straight line?

you should always assume someone from another nation is hostile.

I did learn how to dodge but when they get right in ur face the splash gets you. and there is alot of people that is none hostile from other nations.

Hint: 5 second invul.

I believe he was talking about trying to dock with mines by the station.
Yeah, Sector 7 is impossible. You just get a constant stream of rocket valks after you. I can take on one, but I can't take 3. Yes, you can dodge the rockets, but not from three valks, because while you're dodging one, the other two come behind you and launch their flare volleys.
Almost everyone agrees that range - 0 rocket ramming needs to be fixed. Let's not get too far off topic.
Somewhere along the 3.3 line I think we can expect faction points to be introduced. This will revolutionize gameplay in everything from station nuking to pirating. Rather than expecting newbs to memorize the names of all pirates/griefers, they will *know* when an evildoer enters the sector.
e.g. the NPC "Message Bouy" sees player "Hi-I'm-Friendly" enter the sector with a pirate faction standing of 1000 and a government standing of -200
<Message Bouy> *Alert* The pirate "Hi-I'm Friendly" has entered the sector. Station defenses activated.

ya ctishman i can usually take on one valk with tri flares but not usually 2, or more ,cause then everyone is just splash damage everywhere and they like to come behind you for some reason!
and i hope they do what u said Phaserlight cause that would make the gameplay alot better. and not as many people would get mad and quit playing.

Those suggesting a sort of no-ram trigger on rockets - have you thought of what that would bread???
A new generation of rocketvalks, that do the ram-thingy WITHOUT damage, because those rockets that are too close just wouldn't blow - but those that fits would. Then it would actually take no skills at all to use them then...
EDIT: i know it doesn't quite fit here, but i just saw one that wrote about a no-ram-"fix"...

I find that I need to step in and say something here. I do not like pirating, however, banning people is not neccesary to fix it. In the long term, Vendetta will probably have several thoulsand sectors, a few hundred of which will belong to each "nation". with a reputation system in place to keep "hostile" players (ie anyone who has attacked a ship in the nation space) from docking in a nation's controlled zone, people who want to trade will have a "safe" area to do so in. I haven't played vendetta in over a month because i got tired of the pirates. Does this mean that I will never play again.. no. I am fully intending to return as the game grows larger and the faction/reputation system comes into play. The game should be self policing in the long run. the real advantage that griefers have right now is that they only have a few sectors that they cant dock in. This gives them the ability to get to any of the sectors in a hurry and they can cause trouble anywhere in the game. Long term, the game will create it's own solution, just by the fact that no griefer is going to go 4 or 5 jumps from a station he/she can dock at just to kill traders, thats a long flight for a few minutes of fun. even if they do, rocket ramming becomes impossible to use as a viable tactic, because of AMMO. IMHO anyhow the long term game will fix the short term griefer problem. There will be places that the griefers can go to kill each other, and traders will be able to occupy the "safe" zones if they dont want combat.
