Just out of curiousity is there a Video mode or set-up that VO looks "best" in?

These days, it's "best" to use the resolution that's native to the particular LCD panel you own, assuming you're using an LCD screen.

Beyond that, the "best" combination of effects and graphical tweaks (like High Detail glow and Anti-Aliasing) that both gives you a good desired framerate, and looks nice to you.

So, "best" is pretty hardware dependent.
