Before and After: Detail Textures
Ah, nice. A lot less blurriness. :)
I love it Inc!
Neato. Anybody want to buy me a new laptop so that I can use it? :-P
Needs more brown for true next-gen.
Hrm. My laptop must me older than I think it is, VO hardly even runs anymore.. Cool stuff otherwise.
That's just sex.
I see a fair amount of aliasing in those pictures... How do Detail Textures play with AA?
Well, assuming we're talking FSAA, they should work fine. Since it anti-aliases the entire rendered display. I haven't personally tried it.
Nice update. Too bad I'm unable to use it :(
Thanks inc, I can see the difference now. The roids definitely look better.
Have a look at the massive roids in Dantia L6. Really impressive.
I really like the new look but.. I went to Dantia L6, and my fps went from 60 to between 10 and 8. Sigh.
And yes, looks like I'll have to drop my settings down some for video. (nvidia 5500fx - 256mb - AGP 8x)

vskye: are you using the default 256MB "Visual Quality" settings? The nvidia 5xxx series really sucks, but not that much. However, if you messed with the LOD sliders (Scene/Distance Level of Detail), then that's entirely your own doing. Those should really not be changed from their defaults.
Inc, I was using the defaults. I'll change things back again and then see how everything works. Btw, I'm running in window mode at 1024x768. (oh, I did turn off glow effects)
Any other suggestions on what to change though Inc? (besides window vs full screen)

Well, the window vs full-screen thing could do it, alone, on a Mac or any OS with a 3D-accelerated UI (Vista Aero, etc). I'd recommend removing any plugins (a couple of which are really slow) and then sit in the same location in the sector, with the same view (don't move), and try various Visual Quality settings.. like the 128MB setting, for instance. Also, if in DirectX, you can try setting Shader Model to less than 2.0 (requires a full client exit and restart). Of course, then you won't see the detail textures at all.
I set it up as default with 256mb video and dropped a few settings and its ok now. 30fps or so. Will detail it later.. to many beers.
Edit: Ok, I dropped the Texture Resolution from Very High to High,
and Full Scene Glow Effect to Off. That's it. Oh, this is with Linux Ubuntu 9.04 with enlightenment e17, 32-bit.

bump
Did you have Texture Compression enabled? It should be enabled by default on 256MB cards, at present.
Anything related to texture thrashing should be Better, once we release the current development.
Better still if we get an FP16 shader path in there for 5xxx cards.

Yep, Texture Compression is on. (double checked)
Cool Inc. :) Looking forward to the improvements! Thanks again.
