MMOsite advertising, other changes.

Just a heads-up for any interested, we have an actual front-page ad on mmosite.com right now, using this banner:

I know some people on here have been asking for a banner for awhile, so.. there it is. I haven't made any "wide" ones yet.

I also recently updated the introduction page (a little), and may update the front page whenever I get a chance. FYI.

Rawr! I'll use this.

Edit:
Pre-packaged image code (BBCode) for embedding, requires hotlink-enabled image hosting link (replace the bold part of the link with your image link).
Delete asterisks before use. Picture will link to VO's intro page.

What are the requirements for one of the long ones? (X by X, < X kb, file extensions, etc.)

Nice banner but, the "Guild Software" cel doesn't stay long enough.

(edit) and, the order of platforms should be Apple, Linux then Windows.

Is the ad already up? I have yet to see it and I've refreshed and clicked all their pages like 15 times..

I like all the bad rep people are saying, and the horrific english. Free, free, wha, wha, me, me... Heh, some people.

The banner looks awesome!

*reads comments and dies laughing*

Literature mmo's? Is that guy complaining about all the reading you have to do? I wouldn't doubt it but it's hard to tell.

And I did refresh the site about 10 times to see that banner, I'm just glad it doesn't direct to the link above rather than the home site. Looks great, though!

You have to understand, MMOsite.com is mostly outside of north america (according to Alexa anyway), and is a huge proponent of free-to-play anime-style asian MMOs. I mean, you just have to look at their front page to see that. We're very unusual for them. Even EVE would be unusual for them. So the comments aren't that unexpected.

It just worked out that we were able to get a great deal on advertising there. And they do drive a massive amount of total traffic (again, according to alexa). Exposure is good.

[EDIT]: According to our web stats, mmosite.com has passed all other referrers to become our top referring site.

just what we need more weaboos here

Um. It's weeaboo. At least get the spelling right.

Incarnate, I have received complaints that the banner is too big. I'm too lazy (and not savvy enough) to fiddle and make a smaller version, so... please make a less screen estate-gobbling version?

Umm, well, it was made for a 300x250 @ 50kB advertising spot, I didn't just choose that size out of thin air. As I said in my initial post, I haven't had a chance to make any "wide" type banners, or anything other than the one animated banner that we needed to get done.

That banner was designed to be 300x250, so I'd just as soon people didn't resize it anyway (text might not be legible). I'll get around to making other sizes when I can.. but that's not really right now, sorry.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I wanted it right away. As always, whenever you have time.

I'd just like to advertise for VO, and this (momentarily) precludes my doing so in one specific place (Swiss gaming rights activists forum). No big deal :)

Waaaaaaaaaaay too much time on your hands.

The thing that gets me is, the ad shows support for the 3 major platforms, yet no where on the site do they mention anything other than Windows.

They mention it in the requirements as per copypasta.

sakura: on whose site? mmosite.com? It's true they don't in their little blurb area, but the ad direct to our site, which has Linux and Mac plastered all over it.

Oh, I know. I just find it a little sad that all of these "video gaming sites" only promote games on a small select group of platforms, whatever is *hot* this year. It's seen on IGN, 1-up, really, pick your favorite gaming portal site.

I understand, market share, market share, blah blah blah. But if they don't even let people know that there are alternatives, those alternatives will never grow.
