Thanks :). Unfortunately it actually wasn't very awesome. The bugs were extremely bad, and the person I was with had a pretty bad physical reaction to the bites. I've actually never seen mosquitoes in those numbers before, even in my years in the tropics in places with malaria issues. So thick we really needed head-netting to keep from breathing them in constantly. Bug spray reduced the number of bites, but not the numbers of them orbiting. Probably a good 500-1000 bugs per person, at any given time, without exaggerating; quite the visible dark cloud.

Anyway, we thought about "toughing" it out, but it was really not enjoyable or relaxing, so we pulled stakes and got back on Tuesday. Then I crashed for 12 hours and avoided turning on my computer for the next day or so, to keep the "vacation" vibe going.

All in all, it may not have worked out quite like I hoped, but it was still a nice change of focus and scenery. It got my mind off of work-stresses, and that has been a really great thing to set aside for a few days. I tend to not "unplug" very much, so doing something that forces me to totally focus elsewhere (even if it's hiking through a swamp in a giant cloud of mosquitoes) can be helpful.

Yeah the gnats were incredibly bad this weekend working in the yard. And that was in nice, suburban southeastern Wisconsin.

That blows, but glad you got a mental vacation anyway. You remind me that I need to get some bug netting for my "family camp" vacation in July, though I'll encounter only a small fraction of what you were up against. I got the worst mosquito bites ever while vacationing a couple of times in the Virgin Islands - huge hot welts. It was totally worth it though.
