Ship Maneuverablility (sp?) and STI rating.
Okay, so here are the results of the third such experiment conducted by yours truly.
Accelleration was tested in physics mode going from 0-60 m/s using full throttle with a heavy engine (not boosting). Five runs were done for each test, and the mean and standard deviation were calculated. Results are in seconds.
1. Valkyrie; 2.23, stdv 0.04
2. Vulture; 2.93, stdv 0.07
3. Centurion; 3.54, stdv 0.06
4. Bus; 4.16, stdv 0.08
5. Warthog; 4.20, stdv 0.04
6. Marauder; 4.21, stdv 0.04
7. Hornet; 4.58, stdv 0.05
8. Prometheus; 4.85, stdv 0.03
9. Wraith; 6.12, stdv 0.02
10. Atlas; 6.76, stdv 0.08
11. Centaur; 9.33, stdv 0.05
12. Ragnarok; 9.37, stdv 0.04
Turn rate was tested using a light engine in physics mode by boosting away from a wormhole, using the mouselook to look back 180 degrees, and then measuring the time from when turbo was released to when the crosshairs swung past the center of the screen. Therefore the times below are how long it takes each ship to turn 180 degrees with a light engine. Five trials were run for each result and the means and standard deviations were calculated.
1. Vulture; 2.01, stdv 0.04
2. Centurion; 2.02 stdv 0.05
3. Valkyrie; 2.04, stdv 0.02
4. Bus; 2.10, stdv 0.06
5. Warthog; 2.19, stdv 0.02
5. Marauder; 2.19, stdv 0.06
7. Hornet; 2.41, stdv 0.02
8. Wraith; 2.54, stdv 0.03
8. Atlas; 2.54, stdv 0.01
10. Prometheus; 2.83, stdv 0.03
11. Centaur; 2.99, stdv 0.02
12. Ragnarok; 3.15, stdv 0.02
Finally, just for the heck of it I came up with an STI (Ship Toughness Index) rating for each ship compared to the Bus. What this means is that if two pilots of the *same* skill level went head to head, one in a valk (STI 8.0), one in a bus (STI 1.0), I would expect the pilot in the valk to win eight times before being defeated. The algorithm I used to calculate STI is based on maneuverability, firepower, armor and size.
1. Valkyrie 8.00
2. Marauder 5.53
3. Prometheus 3.33
4. Vulture 3.30
5. Hornet 3.10
6. Wraith 2.91
7. Warthog 2.71
8. Ragnarok 2.30
9. Centaur 1.62
10. Centurion 1.32
11. Atlas 1.29
12. Bus 1.00

Oooo very good testing. Devs this doesn't look like what I'd expect. Is this the way it is supposed to be or is there some sort of bug?
Thanks for doing this work Phaserlight.

I didn't expect the vulture to be faster than the centurion but if they swapped the valk and cent then it would be perfect.
