I'm not sure if this has ever been tried/thought of before, but I'd like to start/organize n00b traning classes on a regular schedule. Would probably be held twice a week, say on a wednesday night and a saturday morning. Two experienced players would collect the new players together, and meet in s9. They would show basic flying/combat and tell everyone how to use the controls properly. Then we could go on to basic ship configuration. Then perhaps each exp. player could dump some cargo and split the class into two groups, one of which would go to s7, and the other to s11, and show basic trading skills. At the completion of the training course, the n00bs would recieve 100,000c from me and/or the other main trainer online at the time.
Much more could be in this, everyone post what your thoughts are, at least a pledge not to pirate these n00bs and their trainers..
Anyone interested in helping please let me know.

good idea. maybe you could have a group of guards to try and protect the new players.
Sector 9 hey! nice... hehe hehe hehe...
;-)
;-)
Id like to help out with that, yeah.
This is an excelent idea. Though the problem will be to get the newbies to and from sector 9 unmolested. There will need to be some sort of ceasefire in effect and agreed to by all online pilots.
Paedric: how about a gentlemen's agreement? Like: we won't interfer at your newbie training if you won't intefer at ours?
On the other hand, there'll be players (on each team) that won't honour such agreements :-/
Well, it's worth a try - we gold have done this before :-)
Regards,
Mark (Commander Jameson)

Yea I've tried...didn't work so well...problem is a lot of people come to interupt these things. Or a lot of the times 1 n00b out of the 6-7 ur training doesn't listen or takes 5000x longer than the rest of the others. So all the other n00bs are sitting there waiting for one person.
Plus if there is a lot of team chat going on it's hard to speak to them all at once.

I do n00b training from time to time. However certain reds (Icarus, Dave) see the need to find and destroy my classes. So far I've done about a dozen and a half with silentsuicide and a couple with steve. Just make sure you have someone from another nation handy for live combat training.
I like helping n00bs, but I can see where actually holding a "class" may be difficult if a griefer/pirate comes along and decides to crash the party. *cough* Icarus *cough*. Great idea though. I'd like to help out.
I was thinking more along the lines of Homestar or Asus or...well you get the idea...
Would there be any possibility to have this dev or guide supported? maybe warn players not to interfere or we could bribe them to leave the n00bs alone...

The first thing you need to teach the noobs is that when Icarus/UncleDave/Homestar pop into the sector they need to beat hell out of there anyway. It sounds like a perfect training opportunity...Anyway if there are joint nation efforts occurring the vets ought to be able to afford the noobs some level of protection eh? maybe?

Problems if they get involed: Avalons, Sunflares, Screemers...Easily from any range they could fly right on in while your teaching and set off one of these 3 things and easily annihilate everyone. Esp if they have the same alliance as you, you won't look to see who it is...you'll keep on teaching.
If you spend your time worrying and endlessly watching the sector the training won't go well.

I would enjoy playing a "pirate" for a the benefit of a class of newbies. Y'know, after you PM me, I'll jump in in the midst of something or other, and you'll scream "PIRATE! GET IM!" and I'll go after them half-assedly.
Thats what I'm saying.....I'd rather give someone a mil than have them interfere in a class...but then again that would be EVERYONE if they found out i was giving away millions....
Maybe the devs could give us a guide that could /explode someone if they came and interfered....hmm

I would love to explain guilds and stuff to the new players. My guild could use some new recruits... if you're interested, contact me at Starfreeze's board, we have our own forum there.
I wouldnt mind being a moderator/newbietrainer if it ever happens :D
cheers

What about a separate non-player to player fire sector(s) for new pilots where, after their character is created, they arrive in this sector and then can learn the basics, kill a few bots, and earn a couple of credits free from the molestations of griefers. There could be experienced pilots given moderator duties so that someone would be available to answer questions, show basic tactics, explain ingame jargon, etc...
This sector would not be accessable by the general population. Only your account's first created character would be allowed to materialize in this sector.
After a player feels comfortable (or perhaps after a set period of time, say 20 hours?) the player would exit through a one way gate to their home sector (so as to avoid a pack of griefers pouncing upon them upon their egress from the safe sector.
Perhaps this would be the time to choose a Nation/Race/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. The character would be created race neutral. After the training period, there could be x number of exits, one for each nation. A billboard can be placed near each exit explaining the general ethos of each nationality and the pilot then chooses his/her new nation when they go through this gate.
